What do you think the saddest song in the world is?

(I don't mean sad as in pathetic
I mean sad as in meaningful and brings a tear to your eye.)

Yopu can post the lyrics if you want.

'Pop' song? Umm.... maybe 'Have You Ever' by Brandy, brings back memories. But the saddest song ever has to be 'Child of Hirsohima' closely followed by 'Puff the Magic Dragon' - have you ever had to sing the last verse of that?! ...I know, I'm a wuss.

A well known sad song is the one Eric Clapton penned for his son Connor, who tragically died. 'Tears In Heaven' was this song.

I agree with Masterful_ally that one of the saddest songs in the world is Puff the Magic Dragon. Who couldn't cry at the verse:

A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant strings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play, along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, Puff could not be brave,
So Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. Oh!

Others that make me cry are

Josh Grobans "To Where You Are" which came out just after a friend of mine commited suicide.

And strangely enough "Butterfly kisses" makes me cry. its so sweet and I feel so much for the poor daddy whose little girl has grown up.

And "Seasons in the Sun" I forget who by. Thats sad.

OMG I totally agree with Jennigurl! That remix made me cry. I literally burst into tears. And then there's this song called the Christmas Shoes:

"Sir I'd like to buy these shoes, for my mama please. It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size. Could you hurry sir? Daddy says there's not much time. You see, she's been sick for quite awhile, and I know these shoes will make her smile. And I want her to look beautiful if mommy meets Jesus tonight."

Doesn't it make you want to cry just reading it?

that song that goes 'you are my my sunshine my only sunshine' makes me feel sad, tearful, almost, which is odd, ass its not really a sad song...

Smashing Pumkin songs are generally quite sad, when they arent angry... Tonight Tonight is quite moving.

I find Bliss by Muse quite sad too, its gotta haunting vibe.

But I gotta mention 'Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad' by Moby. The Piano is very moving

'Fire and Rain' by James Taylor always gets me tearful too, just thought of that one. And 'Without you' by Mariah Carey (well, she covered it) gets me going after a breakup.

A really sad song is The Baby by Blake Shelton!! Everytime I hear it, it brings tears to my eyes!!

My brother said that I
was rotten to the core.
I was the youngest child,
so I got by with more.

I guess she was tired by
the time I came along.
She'd laugh until she cried,
I could do no wrong.
She would always save me,
because I was her baby.

I worked a factory in Ohio,
a shrimp boat in the Bayou,
I drove a truck in Birmingham.
I Turned 21 in Cincinnati,
I called home to mom and daddy,
I said "Your boy is now a man."
She said "I don't care if you're 80,
you'll always be my baby."

She loved that photograph,
of our whole family.
She'd always point us out,
for all her friends to see.

That's Greg he's doing great,
he really loves his job.
And Ronnie with his 2 kids,
how 'bout that wife he's got.
And that one's kinda crazy,
but that one is my baby.

I got a call in Alabama,
said come on home to Louisianna
and come as fast as you can fly.
Cause your momma really needs you,
and says she's got to see you,
she might not make it through the night.
The whole way I drove 80
so she could see her baby.

She looked like she was sleepin'
and my family had been weepin'
by the time that I got to her side.
And I knew that she'd been taken,
and my heart it was breakin',
I never got to say goodbye.

I softly kissed that lady
and cried just like a baby.

Fast Car -- Tracy Chapman

You got a fast car,
I wanna ticket to anywhere,
Maybe we can make a deal,
Maybe together we can get somewhere,
Any place is better,
Startin' from zero, got nothin' to lose,
Maybe we'll make somethin',
Me myself I've got nothin' to prove.

You got a fast car,
I got a plan to get us outta here,
Been working at a convenience store,
Managed to save just a little bit of money
We won't have to drive to far,
Just 'cross the border and into the city,
You and I can both get jobs,
And finally see what it means to be livin'.

You see, my old man's got a problem,
Lives with the bottle, that's the way it is
He says his body's too old for workin',
I say his body's too young to look like his,
My mama went off and left him,
Wanted more from life than he could give,
I said somebody's got to take care of him,
So I quit school and that's what I did.

You got a fast car,
Is it fast enough so we can fly away?
We gotta make a decision,
Leave tonight or live an' die this way.

CHORUS:
So I remember when we were drivin',
Drivin' in your car,
Speeds so fast I felt like I was drunk,
City lights lay out before us,
And your arm felt nice wrapped round my shoulder,
And I, I had a feelin' that I belonged,
And I, I had a feelin' I could be someone,
Be someone, be someone.

You got a fast car,
We go cruisin' to entertain ourselves,
You still ain't got a job,
And I work in the market as a checkout girl,
I know things will get better,
You'll find work and I'll get promoted,
And we'll move out of the shelter,
Buy a bigger house and live in the suburbs.

CHORUS

You got a fast car,
I got a job that pays all our bills,
You stay out drinkin' late at the bar,
See more of your friends than you do of your kids,
I'd always hoped for better,
Thought maybe together, you and me'd find it,
I got no plans, I ain't goin' nowhere,
So take your fast car and keep on drivin'.

CHORUS

You got a fast car,
Is it fast so you can fly away?
You gotta make a decision,
Leave tonight or live and die this way.
