Correct an artist name

In this topic you can request a name change of an artist. Of course, be 100% sure the artist needs to be renamed. Check Wikipedia, Google or any other resources. Include this info in you post, that is very helpful for the reviewers!

So when do we rename an artist?

1. Misspelled

The most common reason to change a name is because it's simply misspelled.

When not to request a name change

1. The artist with the correct spelling already exists

If the artist is already listed on LSI with the correct spelling (check this by doing a search), then the misspelled artist map should be deleted. You can request this in the Remove This Artist Please topic.

2. The artist changed their name

It's not uncommon that artists change their name. On LSI we add this new name as new map and link the old name to this new map. For artist name changes you can use the New Way Of Dealing With Artist Name Changes.

How to request a name change request in this topic

1. mention the artist name that needs to be renamed
2. link the name to its map using the LSI artist-tag
3. mention the reason for the rename
4. mention the new name

Move:

RÜFÜS to RÜFÜS [AU]
Rufus (band) to Rufus [US]

I was told that artists of the same name should be separated by country, and if they both are from the same country, then use genres. Both of these bands are from different countries, so I feel like it would make it easier if they were sorted by country.

I need some help. Should this artist be listed as Lory Bianco or Bonnie Bianco? Here's what I found.

discogs.com : Bonnie Bianco
hitparade.ch : Bonnie Bianco, Lory Bianco, Lory "Bonnie" Bianco
wikipedia : Bonnie Bianco (all), except Lory Bianco (English)

I have transferred all the songs, so this artist should be renamed/be listed with an alias and Bonnie Bianco should be removed.

¡Hola Céline! Spotify USA has her Lory Bianco. Her cdbaby page has her as Lory Bianco.

I think her bio on wikipedia has a good quote
She managed to get out of her contract with Metronome after a battle of seven months and signed a new deal with the German record company WEA (Warner-Elektra-Atlantic, belonging to Warner Bros records). They produced a new album, True Love, Lory, as they mutually agreed to gradually fade away from the name "Bonnie".
So she wants to be called Lory Bianco.

I added it as an alternative search for her name. However, looks like we have Bonnie Bianco on LSI, but it's all blank. Can you delete it? Merci!

I think only Ray and his ladies can delete artists - put their names in the thread to remove an artist.

Move Crosses to ††† (Crosses)

The band's official name is the three cross symbols, but I've noticed in the past that bands with only symbols in their name had glitched artist pages here (example: !!! (Chk Chk Chk), which had to have their alternate name in parentheses so the artist page was accessible). So the alias should go in parentheses.

Do 3G's have an official page? I was able to find them on Facebook, where they're listed as The 3G's, but I'm having trouble finding them elsewhere.

I think that's a different band. I only found them because they have a song on the Princess Diaries soundtrack (which I was linking songs for). They might have been a one-off band for that, as I can't find much info on them online at all, save for a few pictures of them.

It looks as it's already as "The 3G's". So, it is either the same artist, or it is the artist Joey is talking about.

I'm not sure what you mean by that, what's "already as The 3G's"? The one Joeyy linked is an all-male Bee Gees tribute band, whereas the one on the Princess Diaries soundtrack is an all-female group.

I had a feeling that may be confusing. It actually exists as The 3G's. We have the option of, basically, hiding the "The". Is there material of your artist on this page? If so I will remove the "The" and create a "The 3G's" for the other artist.

Yeah, I'm still confused. But yes, the artist page just shows up as "3G's" for me and both of the songs on it are for the female group.

Just a dupe page most likely, I posted it in the "remove this artist please" thread.
