Okay, I just converted an MP3 to .WAV, and the file size doubled like 8 times(from 3MB to 32MB)! So, if I take that same song, and convert it from MP3 to .MID, will the file size go up as high? (I need the file size to be somewhat low)

i think midi files are the smallest audio files available...but then again, midi files aren't really audio files, in the sense that we think of audio files , they're like instructions on how to play the music, rather...does that make any sense...lol...and i always thought you couldn't convert mp3s to midis...midi files lack the quality that mp3 files have

Well I'm writing up a code so Jamie can have music on her website. I'm trying to figure out the smallest possible file format so I don't use up too much of her allowed website space.

jamie's right.. im not really sure how you would do it..

but if you want to you can just decrease the kps.. it'll make the quality less, but itll be smaller.. it might help for what ya wanna do.

the thing with wma files is that windows media created it...and it's used as a protection against copyrighted music...the only wma files there are, are the songs copied from cds...so before people can listen to a song, they'd have to get license to that song

if you know how to use html, you can look at bravenet, they offer a lot of audio scripts you can steal and personalize

Well, for now I suppose I'll just leave them in the MP3 format and see how that works out.

Jordan, if the MP3 doesn't work, I'll go buy the CDs tomorrow - it's not a big deal. Kinda been meaning to, anyway, but I was saving my $$ since I thought I'd be able to go back to California in December.

bravenet is a site that helps you develop your site...they're free scripts, which you don't steal steal...but you take what they give you, and you just personalize it with whatever you want

A MIDI file is only a set of digital instructions that tells your computer which waveform to play and where, hence it's so much smaller...

I have software on my PC that allows creation and direct editing of MIDI files, if that would be of any help here...

Converting .mp3 to .mid makes no sense !
Why ? Because of different way the sound data is stored inside these files.

Converse make sense if the converted stuff is of the same type.
Files (mp3 & wav) contain digitized sound - no matter that in mp3 it is compressed and in wav - it is uncompressed
And few other differences ..... not mentioned here.

I would stick to mp3 if you're using the track solely for listening to.
.wav files are for mixing and producing tunes for the most part and as stated before are uncompressed ergo huge difference in file size.
MIDI are idealistic if using it as a riff / sequence in producing / remixing tunes.
If you're looking to reduce size, just simply edit the bit rate
