Post here for anyone that has died or for an anniversary of a singer, songwriter, actor, author, sports player, etc. You could also say what you appreciated about them.

Keep it nice, keep it neat, keep it clean.

That work?

I'll start with John Spinks, one of the original founding members of the Outfield.

Oh, I would've done it, Carl, but thanks.

The most recent death I read about was Tommy Ramone, who was the last living original member of the Punk band the Ramones.

yep, we got him Jeff. and i should have put in there that you can put in a remberance or something you really enjoyed about the artist. I got to see the Outfield at Sandstone Ampitheater back in the day and they were awsome. His guitar licks were great.

Carl, do you mind if I edit your original post a bit? When I suggested the thread, I was thinking it could be for any celebrity really, including authors, actors, etc. Saves us having several or having to only post about the others in Randomness.

I can also add what you mentioned here (about saying what you enjoyed about them).

I think that would be a good idea, Joey. I'd be more likely to comment about actors than music artists, I think. And adding the part about saying something nice is a good idea to put up there.

Heard on the 6 O'Clock News that Nadine Gordimer, a South African author who wrote mainly about the terrible consequences of apartheid and exile, has died aged 90. She won a Booker Prize in the 70's and the Nobel Prize for literature in the early 90's, and was first published at only fifteen-years-old. Very intelligent woman.

I'd like to thank one of my music teachers, Mr. Millet-Barbé, because we had to learn this song, Il Est Libre Max.

That's nice of you, Celine. Has he died, though? This thread is to remember people who have recently died. That's what "In Memoriam" means ("into memory"). It's used in obituaries, which are notices of death.

Joey : no, not my music teacher (he's alive and well thanks!), but check out the "news" section.

I was thanking my former music teacher only for... A song!

Thanks, Carl. I love 'Mulan'.

Probably not a name known to Americans: Kenny Ireland (68) has died after a battle with cancer. He was in a show I watch with my Dad; gave us a fair few chuckles over the years.

* offtopic :
Despite his last name, he was Scottish.

Michael Johns. Only 35 years old.
I remember watching him on American Idol, the season that David Cook won. He was good, was eliminated sooner than he should have been.
