Carole did disappear afterwards, but she was definitely in France because the postcard went there. Not sure if "Gabe" really was in the US - if people got texts from him? Mods can check IP and location now, but I guess his account's gone.

I don't think that he was trying to say they weren't telling the truth but that they were the only ones that could provide any information & they didn't even though they probably did figure some stuff out that they didn't share with everyone.

I could be wrong too but I read it as they probably did use it to find out who it was. Anyway I still can't imagine pretending to be someone I'm not for that long. I wouldn't have the energy to lie for that long.

I know I'm a newbie so forgive me as I'm not familiar with 100% of the details. On another forum, we had this lady who did the same thing. They figured it out because she was claiming to raise a family but the pictures were taken from other websites. She had two accounts (the "real" her) and her fake account. They were always online at the same time. People called her out on it and she apologized. I guess people get too bored or want to cause trouble. I would suggest those video games where you create your own virtual life if you're that bored.

I don't know how he kept the lies straight for so long. I felt really bad for Kara, her and I ended up talking on facebook a bit after it happened and he definitely did some serious emotional damage. I'll never understand the purpose of the whole thing.

Msybe partly because I never got along with Carole, never knew Kara, and hated Gabe, but I find it super hilarious that they were in relationships without ever meeting or even video chatting. Carole and Kara both look really dumb and it's just absurd that anyone could fall for something like that.

Honestly, I never really considered the possibility of 'Gabe' not being a 'real' person, but mainly because I considered it stupid and pointless to maintain such a lie for so long. Who has time for that? Apparently he did.
I remember he used to text me randomly every once in a while. One time he asked me to help him pick flowers for Carole. I was trying to explain he could just google a local place in her area and place an order online, but he gave some excuse as to why he was having trouble. Anyway, it got to the point where trying to text everything was taking too long and too much effort so I told him just to call me. He then told me that speaking in person would be "too scary." Um ok? I didn't think something like that would have frightened him, but whatever. And I am the one who is paranoid and hates phones... I thought stuff he did like that was always a bit strange. He stopped texting me after that.

He had me call him one time to wake him up so he could talk to Carole. He never answered, just went to a very muffled voicemail that said "this is Gabe, leave a message". The voice didn't sound like what I expected, but wasn't anything super suspicious either. But I think that's how he kept it going so long, little things that were just enough to "prove" who he was.

Those things are so weird to me. I hate when people do sketchy things like say you need to call & wake them when an alarm would be just as loud as a phone call. And even then I still had multiple alarms set on my phone. It wasn't like he could only set one on an alarm clock. Or why he couldn't google a florist in his area. I never trust things like that.

Hi Heather! Hm, I do that from time to time because for some reason the alarm on my phone is wack-a-doodle. It rings so low and it used to be so loud. I even re-set the sound and made sure it was loud, but nope, still low. I guess I need to find an alarm app though?

He had some excuse for not having an alarm clock, which I don't remember. Something about it not working, or that it doesn't wake him up. It seemed stupid at the time, but not suspicious.

His Facebook has been re-activated. It shows no activity since he was found out, but he might be using it to spy on us since he's still friends with several of us. Just a heads up that you may want to delete him if you don't want him to have access to private stuff.

If you don't wanna bother reading it all, here's the short version of the story:
Gabriel is not who he says he is. For the past years, he's been using Michael C's pictures. He's also made up a girl called Brianna Casella – who, in real life, is Mallory D Mike's girlfriend for the past two years as she said herself. Second part of the message
Mike and Mallory's photos have been uploaded by multiple people (their friends) in multiple albums under these names. All their friends in the photos are tagged. Notice that this is not like Gabe's, where only him and Brianna are usually tagged, and only they comment. There is also a video of Michael and Mallory together where you can hear the woman (supposedly Brianna) being called Mallory ("Mal").
So yes. Gabriel lied to us all for the past 8 years. Full explanation below.
Gabriel always claimed to be British, born in Manchester. And yet, you will find no record of his birth on findmypast.co.uk, while other british LSIers can easily be found. Not under his middle name, not under a different city, nothing.
Gabe is the only one who ever comments on Brianna's photos (bearing in mind that 'Brianna' appears to be a very outgoing woman); Gabe is the only one to be tagged in most of Brianna's photos; Brianna often seems to respond very quickly to things Gabe has said; and most of Brianna's profile is on private (despite the fact that she has no problem openly embarrassing herself on Gabe's profile). Surely no woman would degrade and humiliate herself the way Brianna does.
More recently, he would not meet Kara, although he loved her and was feeling suicidal because of her. They were only 2 hours away, why wouldn't they meet? Or speak on the phone? Gabriel would only leave her voicemails with a funny british accent. Also, he wouldn't give her his address, nor allow her to drive to his city.
And, oddly enough, health issues would always get in the way of them meeting. Although Kara called the hospitals, and no Gabriel Matthews was ever checked in. Even though he said he was.
If you looked at his friends lists on Facebook (it has since been deleted) you may have noticed that they are mostly members from LSI. Out of 84 friends, 70 something are LSI members.
Like 'Brianna', Gabe appears from his photos to be an outgoing person, right? His hockey; his partying (mostly in the past due to his apparent sickness, but he did mention going out recently); his friends from the photographs he has. Why aren't these people on his Facebook? It's curious that he had supposedly lived in Manchester (or even the UK) for years, but had no one on his Facebook who he went to school with here or hung out with here (the only British people there are ones from LSI). Gabe calls Brianna "just an old fuck buddy", but his pictures imply otherwise. Not only do they show the two at parties together, but they show them at what looks like either holidays or family gatherings; at events such as the sorority ones... and Gabe had said he had spent a Christmas with Brianna. Still, we thought maybe they were simply closer friends than he has tried to imply.
In one of those Brianna pictures, she was wearing a sorority t-shirt. Chi Omega to be more precise. Using different Penn State and sorority websites, no record can be found of a Brianna Casella at a Penn State sorority. Also no available records for inline hockey online, other than statistics and main players (no Gabriel Matthews there). Nor a roster of both the US team and the British team, as Gabe has apparently claimed to play for both.
Eventually, through the PSU sorority websites, Mike and Mallory were found.
