Keane, it's over. At least, for some years. After rumours of split coming from English tabloids, the British band's spokesman put things clear and assured to fans : "Keane will take a break after their Best Of, so that they could concentrate on solo projects." Let's say it, since their debut album Hopes And Fears in 2004, Tom Chaplin's band got a string of hits, from Somewhere Only We Know to Everybody's Changing, and also Is It Any Wonder? and Spiralling. With their compilation, that included the 2 new songs Higher Than The Sun and Won't Be Broken, Keane ended the chapter 1 of their career. But those who vibrated for the singer's voice will be happy : Tom Chaplin goes solo!
His debut album, recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Matt Hales (Lianne La Havas, Sara Bareilles and Bat For Lashes), The Wave will come out on October 14. A project born from this rebirth, after having nearly died. "When I finally liberated myself from years of spiraling addiction, a place of inspiration and creativity became available to me. I set about writing an album that documents my transition from the darkest recesses of human experience to a place of resolution, fulfillment and happiness" Tom Chaplin explained. The album will contain 16 tracks for the Deluxe edition and already includes the first single Quicksand, an aerial pop song in Keane's vein.
Whereas he sounds as marvellous as his band's highlights, Tom Chaplin talks to his daughter in this touching song, putting hard knocks of life into question, while giving advice for keeping hope, because he will be there to help her. "But if you crash land in the quicksand, I will pick you up, I'll pull you out / And if the world shakes, your brittle heart breaks, we will patch it up, we'll work it out" he sings in Quicksand, while the video takes us to his childhood life. Facing the wind that prevents him from going on, little Tom falls but finds the strength to go back and finally accomplish... Thanks to a giant teddy bear.
