They should have been the new Pussycat Dolls. Whereas their success was getting more and more intense, the girlsband G.R.L. lost one of their members, Simone Battle, who committed suicide. 9 months later, the band announces their split.

Created in 2012 by Robin Antin, who saw the new Pussycat Dolls in them, the girlsband G.R.L. just split. However, everything started well for Simone, Lauren, Emmalyn, Natasha and Paula. Their debut single, the pop track "Vacation", appeared on the soundtrack for The Smurfs 2, along with new songs by Britney Spears, Becky G, Nelly Furtado and Owl City.

Compared to the Spice Girls, G.R.L. had the opportunity to work in studio with famous American hitmakers such as Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Cirkut and Darkchild for their then-unreleased debut album. To attract more audience, they featured on Pitbull's single "Wild Wild Love", that has been successful in the United Kingdom and Australia.

Following this warm welcoming, G.R.L. continued with "Ugly Heart", a hit in Australia and New Zealand, taken from their self-titled EP. But on September 5, 2014, the girlsband faced a nightmare. Simone Battle, 25 years old, has been found hanged in her dressing. Her suicide affected the rest of the band. The 4 remaining members paid tribute to her on "Lighthouse", but the audience didn't follow.

A communiqué announced the band's split, without any other explanations. Lauren Bennett, one of the former members, simply published her tweet : "Thank u all for ridin with GRL thru the tough times... I know it's a bit all confusing but I love you all, and care never forget."
