17 year old Nick Bollea - son of wrestling star Hulk Hogan - was earlier in the past year charged with reckless driving involving serious bodily injury, use of a motor vehicle in commission of a felony, a person under the age of 21 operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol level of 0.02 or higher (For the record, his blood level was 0.55).

Last month, he was sentenced to just 8 months in prison, while his passenger at the time of the crash, John Graziano (who wasn't wearing a seatbelt), is expected to spend the rest of his life in a nursing home.

According to sources from Wikipedia, audio tapes were released of Nick's jail phone conversation when he was in overnight incarceration several months ago:

The tapes included his father saying that crash victim John Graziano received "heavy shit" from God because of things that he was "into" and Nick agreed, saying John was a "negative person." Nick's mother said Graziano's mother is "nasty and vindictive," claiming she's trying to get money and did not "give a shit" about her son.The press was critical of the Hogans blaming the crash victim and said the phone calls could mark the end of Hulkamania.

Graziano didn't deserve a lifetime of this, and 8 Months in prison for doing this to someone, is a f***ing disgrace

the other way? That made no sense.

Ok, well that's your opinion, although it doesn't make a ton of sense to me. I mean, if one of my favorite actors or athletes are drunk driving or something, I care more than I do about some random person.

i dont think the bollea/hogan sotry should get more coverage than the event signifies. at least not on the real news. save it for ET goddamnit. there's too much going on of real significance that would better deserve the sapce in the papers or the airtime. if the usual drunk driving case gets 45 seconds, this one shouldnt receive 10 minuets simply because of the parties involved

He got an extremely lenient sentence and his family had shocking things to say about the incident.

^^ which also happens more than you think... but it doesn't make headlines.

Like I said before.. I'm not 'surprised' that it got this much coverage. I'm just saying the only reason everyone is so involved is because of the coverage, and the lack of coverage on other events of this sort. People are ignorant to what's really out there.. so they jump on the bandwagon with the rest of the paparazzi

there's too much going on of real significance that would better deserve the sapce in the papers or the airtime.

agreed.

So then the media should cover all people the same way? And not cover celebrities more than normal people? I don't think anyone is trying to hide the fact that this happens sometimes... I just think the media, like myself, realizes nobody gives a shit about some average guy who does it.
