First of all, there were women apostles. It's the fault of the church for covering that up. In the first years of Christianity women were huge in baptism and evangelizing. Second of all, I read some of the contradictions in the Bible and some of them are a little questonable. They're misinterpretations, looking at things at face value (sound familiar?). For example, Hosea did marry a prostitute, but that doesn't justify adultery. He MARRIED her. And in marrying her she was no longer a prostitute, she had a home to live in and someone to care for her. But you're right about the contradictions in the Genesis creation story. First of all, they're just that. Stories. And not meant to be taken literally. Since Will wanted to know the contradictions I can give one. When Cain was banished for killing Abel, he ran off to the city, and told God he was afraid people would find out what he did and kill him (if Adam and Eve were the first, then where the hell did this city and other people come from?). But it's meant to be a story that reveals human nature. Nothing more. And this is where the stuff I say about looking at the bible in context comes in. What kind of writing is it? Is it meant to be taken literally? Is it a poem? Is it a parable? What did it mean to the people reading it?

The bible is entertainment, with a didactic twist, whose form is almost directly derived from Roman oratory and prose (now of course a lot of rhetorical techniques are based on Classical writing, but the Bible itself is littered with literary tricks that are considered by the majority to be elements of entertainment in writing).
