I usually come here when there is news happening in Europe b/c there are quite a lot of Europeans on this board who could give me insight onto these news events. So had anyone made a topic on the riots. Seems like they came out of no where. But from the news reports I've read, it stems from many years of being considered "second class" citizens. Anyone from the area care to respond? Is it as bad as the news reports make it out to be? If there is already a topic on this a moderator can just add my post to that. Thanks again!

Thank you....
Yes, especially in the area that I am from. It is quite like a ghetto in some parts. There is a large north African population in Spain but the problems have not been as significant as what they have been in France (before the riot).
Now with Spain's socialist government more is being done to help them but as in basically all parts of Europe, Racism and prejudice is present. Those are the main factors holding them back. In Spain there is also a language barrier, as most of them speak French.

From everything you said so far it doesn't look like you got the information from someone who got it first handed.
And you are from where?
And arguing with a little boy? Not even mentioning the fact that I'm older than you, but the fact that you think it's needed to try to insult me really shows you're the little one.
Age means nothing.

Where I'm from changes nothing about the fact that what you so far had said didn't look like you got it firsthanded nor by someone else who got it firsthanded.
And I know that age means nothing in most cases, but by calling me a little boy without any reason shows that it does mean something in this case.

Well, you wanted personal experience?
Our family friends have been evacuated under police escort because of the riots. They live close to a town where the riots have spread but since they are so isolated the authorities thought it would be safer to leave. So now they are staying with friends further south.
Also, they say it isn't a muslim vs christian thing. Like all mobs people just join in and basically it is idiots that want to cause trouble and other 'second class citizens'.
But what would I know.....

It looks so bad, just another form of terrorism.
Ok, I didn't real all the post, cause I'm to lazy (he, sorry) but...
This area in Paris where it all started, isa getto in a suburb. These ppl have nothing, no job, only a roof but no furniture, hardly any food, no social status, nothing. If they wouldn't exsist, ppl wouldn't miss them, that's how they feel.
Youth has no hope, no future, cause they see that around them constantly. They're treated like outlaws and they feel like that too.
The reason why they're doing this now, is because their only way to show ppl that they are alive, is by using violence. And it works, doesn't it? I mean, they're speaking about it all over the world now, now at least everyone knows they exist and their scream for attention is heard.
The problem now is, how to help them? I guess that's a problem that every western european country is struggling with at the moment. The right ones will say, "they're scum who can only use violence, so good riddance", the left onse will say "we're the ones in our capitalistic society that brougt their ancestors to our countries to do the dirty work in the first place, we're responsible for their poverty".
The truth is not as simple as either of these two views. It's very complex and asks a lot of cooperation from all corners of society.
These ppl aren't born crimminals, they're made that by society. they aren't terrorists, they're ppl with no future, like the punk-slogans, but in real life, and a dramatic thing it is too...

Thanks for the great information guys! So i've heard that its spreading to spain, the netherlands, the uk...how is it there? Also, this is just an observation, but does the economy have anything to do with it? How is France and much of Europe right now 'economically speaking'. I mean i know there is growth, but is there an attitude that the way things have been done is the way they should be done. Is there alot of innovation/inspiration there where these people can find a way out of their rut and make a name for themselves? Not to insult anyone just making a comment. I mean I know Europe as a whole is doing fine especially with the Euro...but is economic stagnation (lack of growth) a problem that caused all of this?

since unday night, there were cars being put to fire in Belgium too: in Brussels, Antwerp, St-Niklaas and Lokeren.
The problem is, how can we know it is done by the so called "immigrants" (wich they arent of course, cause the are all born here, heh), or by others who are racist and want to blame the youngsters for it?
I think it's not easy to know, cause there are no ppl caught so far.

my french teacher has been talkin about this all week. it sucks whats goin on but im a little confused at why ppl are doing it. It cant help them, they'll still be stuck in the ghetto and richer ppl will always look down on them.

I cant wait to talk about this in fourth block

Tonight, I'm ashamed of being French. I'm going to New Zealand and change my nationality there. You can add Philippe Couillard (no joke) as your new Interior Minister since he's gonna leave Canada - and he speaks French.
Shame on my native country today.
