No, I don't mean rocket propelled grenades so all you anarchists can put your weapons down

Meanwhile, all you gamers can pick your weapons up - by RPG I do of course mean Role Play Games. From Pokemon to Dungeon Siege, World of Warcraft to Final Fantasy, this thread is dedicated to them all.

Which RPGs do you play? Are some better or worse than others? Do you have any tips that might make playing the games a little easier for others who are just starting out with them?

I'll try to throw a "RPG Spotlight" in this thread every so often to highlight one that I enjoy a lot, and everyone else is welcome to do the same.

Let battle commence!

Why hasn't Guild Wars been a topic here yet?

I am still not sure what I have to think of the game (though I have been playing it almost every day for quite while now)

I play adventure quest - www.battleon.com. Free, very good gameplay, friendly staff etc etc

Also http://z10.invisionfree.com/Star_Trek_TFG/index.php?act=idx - Its a star Trek textbased RPG, very new but very good. Members are friendly and its not so crowded yr rps get lost. Its not really bout the Star Trek but the RPing. Check it out! [/advertisement]

WoW - reaches 8 million subscribers worldwide. Now that is really WOW! I was a huge fan of Warcraft III ROC/TFT when it came out. I still am.. since it's probably the best strategy game I've come across.

Anyway... WoW truly is the best game ever. It is so good, that I can't afford to get addicted to it. Because I know, if I do, forget education, family, friends, everything! Not to mention I'll be forever broke.

It's more like "The Ring" in L.O.T.R. It's mesmerizing as hell, yet I know if I give in.. I'll meet my doom. lol

I've tried playing other MMORPG games, to divert my attention from WoW. But as I feared, it didn't work. This might seem stupid for most of you, as I'm creating a big deal out of this. But me and my friends are reluctant to play that game. Inspite of how much we're dieing to get accounts and start playing, we don't wanna become WoW junkies =/

I don't like MMORPG. First of all, it is too time-consuming and I don't like monthly fee, either. Normally, I do like all these open-ended and long rpgs but some of them are just too downright boring like Morrowind Elder Scroll.

However I loved Baldur's Gate and Star Wars KOTOR. I also loved Final Fantasy 9. Pokemon Blue was also fun enough to stick to the end.

The difference though Daniel, is that Guild Wars is not a MMORPG. When you aactually look at it, it's better described as a CCORPG (Cooperative/Competitive Online Role Playing Game)

now you are trying to twist things .. it is a MMORPG for sure

and don't stress the cooperative too much The henchies/heroes system makes that you can play it almost completely on your own. I could even hench my way through the final Tyria mission.

It is nicer though if you can cooperate in a good functioning group

It's cooperative because it's very team oriented. Even if you're playing alone and using the AI henchmen or heroes to fill out a team, it's still working cooperatively as part of a team. It is possible to truly solo certain areas, but doing that requires a highly specialised build that would only work in that specific area against specific kinds of monsters.

The only part of the game that isn't cooperative - team based - is the newbie area of Prophecies where the mobs are so easy that anybody can go outside alone and have no difficulty with anything regardless of the skills you load onto your bar.

the heroes and henchies is just AI in a body that is doing its work, really. Granted, you can tweak that by rearranging the skills they use, but it still remains AI. The basic idea (without heroes) was to force people to cooperate, but Anet undermined that by introducing heroes. I am not complaining Withouth heroes we would have never got passed the Thirsty river, just the 2 of us
