| I'm sorry I gotta disagree, they are a pretty bad band. I guess that explains why they have such a small fan base. Go figure | 0 @ 05-04-2003 03:32 Merlin | 623 posts
| Small fan base? Im not a big fan of the band either, but that statement is completely incorrect.

| Well, I've nothing against them.
I don't think they were a particulary good band, but they came along at the right time with the right image, so good for them. | 0 @ 05-04-2003 18:25 XxX | 4,994 posts
| I've heard OF them, but never heard any of their songs, I dont think... | 0 @ 05-04-2003 19:10 Cathan | 224 posts
| There tunes were pretty simple, just 3 chords mostly and pretty aggressive (certainly by the standards back then).
They had song like "God save the Queen" and "Pretty Vacant".
Lot of angst, loud guitars and shouting.
Not really my thing but they do have a place in music history. When they first came out, music was dominated by the "dinosaurs" of Rock, with extended 5 min. guitar solos and stuff.
Then punk came and it was just really simple, catchy and aggressive tunes and it refreshed the music scene.
The Sex Pistols and the Clash were the main punk bands back then. (Not really into punk but I'd say the Clash had the better tunes)
There, that's my brief summary of Punk history | 0 @ 05-04-2003 20:26 Merlin | 623 posts
| Dont forget The Ramones as well. The Ramones and The Sex Pistols were really the groundbreakers of the punk scene, The Clash really only broke through about two years later (London Calling, Combat Rock, etc.)
The CBGB scene in New York spawned the fame of many of the big so-called "punk" bands of the time. The Ramones played their often, as well as Blondie, and Talking Heads, although the Heads kind of evolved beyond punk into a less accessible but more sophisticated sound.
