9. How would you describe your country in 3 words?
1. Lucía, 18, Spain
2. 18.
3. 18.
4. Spanish.
5. Catholic.
6. Día de la Constitución (6th of December, it's the date when the Spanish Constitution was made in 1978) is one of the most important non-religious holidays.
7. Democracy, since Franco died in 1975 (and not Republic, as George Bush' brother said!) Well, there's the Royal Family, of course. You might remember the wedding of Prince Phillip with a journalist called Letizia... The thing is that half of the Spanish population like the Royal Family, and the other half think that it's completely useless... I'm neutral really. Everything has good things and bad things, and so does the Spanish monarchy, I suppose.
8. It seems it depends on the political party that governs the country, so now that it has changed... who knows! Anyway, these are the basics: you can enter nursery school at 3 or 4. At the age of 6 you start primary school, which you finish 6 years later. Then you have E.S.O., which means, more or less, Compulsory Secondary Education, and it takes four years. Then, the compulsary period ends (you're 16) and then you can enter Bachiller, which is not compulsary, so that you can enter University. Once you've finished Bachiller, you have to do an exam that takes about three days and is called 'Selectividad', the equivalent to the English 'A-level' exam. Instead of Bachiller, you can enter some two-year courses, which give you the required qualification for some professions like mechanic, hairdresser and many other various jobs, and these courses are called 'módulos de formación profesional'
9. (Too) Hot. Unknown (for some foreigners, especially those who think that olé and flamenco are a tradition from all over Spain... and they're not! But I suppose it's very difficult to know more things about Spain and be right at the same time when in blockbuster films like 'Mission Impossible 2' they mixed the Easter tradition of Seville and the 'falleras', which are from Valencia! Very different from each other, I can tell). Unique (as every single country in the world! ) | 0 @ 22-10-2004 22:15 Evan_Blant | 177 posts
