| then why did you answer this thread?
I believe in God because I like the way it usually makes me feel. I like the fact that praying puts my mind at ease. I like having faith in something so strong. | 21-10-2004 21:07 Cyd |

| So many reasons. For one thing...there's gotta be an uncaused cause.
For another thing, part of it is blind faith.
Part of it is a feeling.
Part of it has to do with how I was raised.
Part of it is, "you've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything."
Part of it is, believing in God has led me to live a certain lifestyle, and this lifestyle...well I think I'm happier than most people *shrug*. | 22-10-2004 15:38 SomeCallMeMaxx | 6,661 posts
| "So many reasons. For one thing...there's gotta be an uncaused cause."
*hugs you*! i can't believe you said that! that's awesome!! few people i talk to even know what i'm talking about when i say that. but.....if that uncaused cause is known, why do you label it God? and not something else? or another God?
vandy, do you know what a fideist is? | 22-10-2004 17:18 vandy |

| What else would it be besides God?
And no, I don't know what a fideist is, although from "fide" I can guess it has something to do with "faith". | 22-10-2004 17:19 DannyB |

| I believe in God, because it always gives me hope. It's an amazing power that fills me with joy. An t's not because I'm scared of dying. It's because of my life. it inspires me to keep going. An its not like i was rased christian, I did that on my own and I'm proud of it. I dunno...It gives me a rush | 22-10-2004 17:30 minastirith |

| I just don't... it's said faith comes as you grow, but I don't believe. I just can't believe in it- it's so primitive. It's not God, it's evolution. | 22-10-2004 17:32 mannolewen | 730 posts
| oh and about the comment about believing in god makes you go to heaven. thats not true. my mombelieves in god but she isn't going to heaven. you don't unless you repent and sh hasn't and probably wont, which is a sad thought. | 22-10-2004 17:33 New_Born | 1,552 posts

| There was also a Catholic theory of buying indulgences, which was used deveivingly by the corrupt Catholics(not all were corrupt, but some were). Repentence is key, as you said above... sorry dannyB, I just can't believe in heaven, hell, or God. It's all a sham to make us be good, out of fear. | 22-10-2004 17:41 DannyB |

| That wasn't Catholic; that was like...Lutheran or something. Martin Luther(not king) started that practice. I learned about it in school. And, it had nothing to do with Catholics, I don't think. | 22-10-2004 17:42 Cyd |

| Actually, Martin Luther started his Protestant revolution in protest against the selling of indulgences... Catholics believed that by buying indulgences, they reduced their time in Purgatory(place between heaven and hell), but they had to accept that they had done wrong, and repent. However, the corrupt Catholic priests(again, not all were), deceived people into thinking that by buying these indulgences they were effectively buying tickets to heaven(little aware that in truth, they weren't!). | 22-10-2004 18:30 su_see | 10 posts
| Hey Im Catholic!!!!
