The Rules

Participants will be given some type of subject from which to make a choice (favorite book, what you wanted to be when you grew up, etc) and will submit their choice to the host via PM by the submission deadline (see below).

The host will then post a list of all the submissions verbatim (along with the host's submission, plus one or two fake submissions) in alphabetical order, and a list of the submitters in alphabetical order.

Participants will have until the second deadline to try to match the correct submitter with the correct submission and post their answers in this thread. Please remove your own name and answer from the list, along with whichever one you believe is fake. Other than the host, anyone is allowed to participate in this section of the game, regardless of whether or not they submitted a choice.

After the second deadline has passed, the host will post the correct answers, as well as the total number of correct guesses by each guesser. Obviously the winner is the person or people with the most correct guesses. The person or people with the fewest correct guesses will have to be the host and winner's personal slave for the remainder of the year.

The Scenario

What's your dream job. This one's easy. You don't have to imagine shit. You don't have to think too hard about it. You don't have to write a novel about it. Just name the thing you'd want to do for the rest of your life, regardless of pay or education/training. You probably already know what it is. A few of you might even be doing it. Just put that into a message and sent it to me.

The Deadlines

Submissions:
6/23, Midnight LSI Time. That's a week. It shouldn't take you a week. This one is stupid simple. If you're already reading this, click on my name and send me a pm with your answer. Don't look at it, say "I'll do it tomorrow", and forget to do it. Click the name, send the message. Now.

No extensions, if yall don't get enough of them to me by the deadline I'm just gonna forget this is even a thing. Or worse, I'm going to make some up for a few of you, and I promise they won't be flattering.

Guessing:

To be announced, probably like a week and a half after I get all of the submissions.

My logic for guessing Practice as the submitter of 'retired gajillionaire' was the random capital G. Sort your shit out.

Oh yay, thanks friends! I'm glad I didn't do a drunk submission or everyone would have ended up as porn stars and raptor trainers.

Jeff, that's really your dream job?
And Practice, I had no idea. Perhaps you've mentioned your interest before and I just missed it.

Surprised at Sierra's choice as it was Jeff who was so interested in becoming a Raptor Trainer---I even remembered sending him/posting some information about places in NY he can go to see some hawks and falcons demonstrate their abilities....

No, Jen.... I play my cards close to my vest (oh oh just mentioned I wear vests...bullet proof and otherwise)

Not just a dream, I've actually tried for that a number of times.... last time was in 2009 with a contest.

Hi all, I must be "slow"

I thought Sierra's choice was "raptor" as in Falconry the training of raptors (or birds of prey), something I knew something about and told Jeff about way back in Pointless game number 27,

But now that I know it is Sierra, I think I get which kind of Raptor Sierra was thinking about..... the dinosaur kind from Jurassic Park and got them confused.. (I have done too much that are similar to each other, it happens

And I think from the cartoon style in a You Tube I found means this is from Archer or some show on cartoon network (or someone imitating it very well!!) which is something that Sierra likes if I recall correctly.

Here is real "Raptor Training" for all those to enjoy, who have NO IDEA what I'm referring to:

Am I the only one who chose what I actually do? Does that make me lame for not dreaming bigger, or lucky because I'm living my dream?

lucky because I'm living my dream?

There are many books out there about getting or having a dream job.... You don't have to read any of them if you're one of the truly savvy, highly qualified, multi-lingual, enthusiastic ones (and lucky too given all that luck has its role to play too) who are doing what makes you truly happy in life and work at the same time!

As for the rest of those here at LetsSingIt, whose name does not begin with "Lisa" and end with a Swedish last name with maybe some umlats over the letters, I present these books among many others:

Book: (See Inside too)

Book

General Book

Don't forget the importance of that Dream Job Interview!

Don't give up until you try theses ideas in this book!

Good Luck everyone!

Wow, I guessed better than I expected.

I like my job, Lisa, but it wouldn't be my life's dream to be a banker. Good for you for finding what you like and being able to do it though. I don't think many people do.

I think it's awesome you have your dream job, Lisa. I have a few dream job options I'd be happy to have, I just picked the one that would be the most fun for this game. Dream jobs don't have to be wild, crazy or glamorous, just whatever you'd enjoy doing.

Like I said on the first page, half of you had reasonable dream jobs, obtainable ones.

It's statistically unrealistic to think that Jen will actually end up a professional volleyball player, Kaleb the host of the Amazing Race, Carl an actor, or me a pro football analyst. No matter how hard we work toward a goal like that, it just probably isn't going to happen because there are so few opportunities in those fields. Almost the definition of dream jobs, based off of a passion but not really obtainable as either a career or even a side job. You'd love to have them but almost 100% not gonna happen.

Raptors aren't a thing so Sierra's can't happen and Jeff's was just stupid bullshit. These jobs only exist in your dreams, not going to happen at all.

That leaves 6 of you with dream jobs that could happen (or already are, Lisa). Some of you would need serious training and education (shark tagging) and a lucky break or 2 (writing anything professionally, being financially stable enough to stay at home and parent) but its obtainable even if it's only something you do on the side because you can't financially support yourself doing it (comic book illustrations, song writing). Literally half of you have a chance to do what you dream of doing for a living in your lifetime, that's kinda cool.

I'll be honest, I expected to see more stupid answers like Jeff's. I even considered a few ridiculous ones myself. I had Space Pirate down as a placeholder for me until about halfway through your submissions. I figured if yall were going to take it seriously I might as well too.

I was really impressed with the answers as they were comming in, even most of the stupid/impossible ones. 99% had at least some thought put into them, it actually made it hard to come up with good fakes.

So thanks for putting a little effort and thought into it guys, I enjoyed doing it for the most part.

Haha, we're all writers then.

I used to dream of being a writer, and retired gajillionaire would be pretty awesome 'cause then you could just do cool stuff without it being your job. (Unless retired means you'd have to be old.)

But I've become more social in recent years and I love having coworkers, so I think sitting alone and writing would drive me up a wall if I did it full-time. Of course, no one said it had to be full-time, so maybe that would work. Anyway. I love my job, it's fun and I feel proud of my work. I rarely dream of doing anything else.

Jeremy does an excellent job of summing up the game's submissions above and I only want to add to it...

The 6 of us who have realistically achievable job/career choices including my own.. so to speak up for the cartoonist/writer profession, I say the same I would say about anyone's dream job... Just don't give up. It may happen, it may not happen, but not trying at all is one way to make certain that your Dream Job will never happen. Keep on improving your skill set you need for the job (other advice for my job--in case anyone is interested) is in this very good interview about what does a comic book artist do?

You can have a day job too in addition to your Dream Job..

For example Jake Tapper of CNN is a "failed" cartoonist...he got his chance though this past month doing "Dilbert" illustrations for a week. He occasionally draws some caricatures for his CNN show "The Lead" at the end of the hour.

I had to give two articles as one did not mention all the items the other one did. 1. ,,,,,,,,, 2.

For those who chose the jobs that are almost impossible to achieve, it does not mean giving up entirely! Just be more creative! (how about considering this advice as your first assignment at your "Dream Job" so lets see how many of you can become successful at this).

They call it "thinking outside of the box"... for example.. Jeremy says his becoming a Pro Football analyst is impossible... I don't know much at all about football so my stab at this in the dark means that to think outside of the box is to either do one of two things....

1. Try for a slightly lesser therefore an achievable position! There are literally 1000's of places in the USA from small television stations/cable sports news and local teams who need someone with the correct knowledge to analyze and report by announcing/broadcasting, etc locally, what they are doing. If you can prove your mettle and strength at this level, you get the experience for higher levels. (Again, don't forget I'm merely using Jeremy's Dream Job as an example for all the others who are wondering how to get from "here" to "there").

Postings on the web show that some "pro"/NFL type positions were even available at only 20 hours a week effort, so that it could fit into someone's regular job life when openings open up again!

And nothing in life ever goes to waste.. for to become a professional "anything" everyone had to start at the bottom of the career ladder. So its a good feeling to know that some of the same people next to you or who you're competing against for jobs, some of them may rise to become that exact dream job of a pro football analyst.

And the 2nd one is really fun to try to do. If your dream is football analyzing of the major NFL teams, then just find out what parts of that job you truly love to do.. is it the professional Sports environment? The ability to give your opinions on air for an attentive crowds of people who appreciate it? Then step up to the plate and see what other jobs/careers need that same type of skill sets (as I say I took that one Jeremy offered as I know the least about)--- and find that other career/job that satisfies most of the enjoyable job experiences you want to have and go for that one.

OK, here is a short compressed answer: So if you can't find your way to your dream job, take the bold step of seeing how you can fit it into your current job/life situation, or otherwise modify the dream so you get the most "parts" of what makes the dream job something you truly enjoy doing all day long.

As for the money? Well, remember some of the books offering advice on how to do this (see my prior posting above) define a dream job as something you do because you truly love doing it. If you get paid for it, great! But if you just love the process of being that person, doing that job, living that career goal, you should be willing (and able--though as Jeremy correctly points out that can't always happen) to do the job for nothing at all!

Good luck to all of you and your dreams! Remember, think BIG!
