I'm not sure if I understand it correctly. The field where you enter your nickname only accepts 15 characters max. So entering longer nicknames is not possible. Still, a notification would still be nice you mean?

I believe that's what he's saying. I've seen a lot of usernames over the years that obviously had one letter missing from the end because of the character limit. Maybe some don't mind, but I'm sure others would appreciate a warning.

Yes, perfect--Ray and Joey: Just so that I (or someone) does not get to the end of the field and "miscounted" the number of letters in their user/member name---and have to suddenly, unexpectedly alter their name while entering it.
I tended to go for longer names to be distinctive from the rest, so maybe its only me.....but having the number there for me to realize that there is a limit is a big help and guide!
(Also I'm beginning to view other sites with warnings to "do not press any other buttons while entering your name" (i.e. backspace/delete) ----preventing me from accidentally saving a name I did not want).
Thanks Ray!

Thanks Joey for your observation about the loss of the all important last letter..... If I wanted to stay with my PracticePractic name, I'd prefer to lose a letter inside one of the duplicated words... as the following "fun fact" about English proves that dropping the last letter, in particular, off of a User/Member name can have a more devastating/confusing effect than maintaining the last letter: (See my example below from "Typoglycemia" website--which is this ability to read English jumbled up this way is called)
Take a look at this paragraph. Can you read what it says? All the letters have been jumbled (mixed). Only the first and last letter of ecah word is in the right place:
I cnduo't bvleiee taht I culod aulaclty uesdtannrd waht I was rdnaieg. Unisg the icndeblire pweor of the hmuan mnid, aocdcrnig to rseecrah at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it dseno't mttaer in waht oderr the lterets in a wrod are, the olny irpoamtnt tihng is taht the frsit and lsat ltteer be in the rhgit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it whoutit a pboerlm. Tihs is bucseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey ltteer by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Aaznmig, huh? Yaeh and I awlyas tghhuot slelinpg was ipmorantt! See if yuor fdreins can raed tihs too.
[What the ] Paragraph [actually means]
I couldn't believe that I could actually understand what I was reading. Using the incredible power of the human brain, according to research at Cambridge University, it doesn't matter in what order the letters in a word are, the only important thing is that the first and last letter be in the right place. The rest can be a total, mess and you can read it without a problem. This is because the human mind does not read every letter by itself, but the word as a whole. Amazing, huh? Yeah and I always thought spelling was important! See if your friends can read this too!

That's a good suggestion, Practice. Ray, you could have a little note under the box, too:
Note: Username is limited to 15 characters
robdog2008 | 26-11-2015 08:21
a note and maybe a popup (when a typed name is over 15) saying the name is limited to 15 characters
ive seen it done on other sites with passwords for example

Its easy to become a member here! Takes only 30 seconds as the rotating news item states above.
Maybe I mentioned this before, but for another reason I had Nicholas checking out the "new member sign up process" on the site re-design today.
And he reported back to me, so I know that it still does not warn you, when you are first thinking/creating that all important "member name" for LSI, that no one alerts you to the fact there is a character limit of 15.
Now you all know exactly how my planned name here "PracticePractice" ended up becoming "PracticePractic".
And if we can warn people to just type the name.... I don't know if you need to warn people about using other keys too.. On the old website I had pressed "backspace" to try and erase the second one to do it over, and the backspace key moved the whole screen back one and in doing so saved the name.... So that's the story of how I got stuck with the name.... you can only type once in the old design name field....
So maybe a placing a "?" mark near the end of the blank name field, or "i" button for information upon hovering the mouse over them. So we can tell the newest members-yet-to be people about the 15 character limit, and some advice to not press any other buttons while entering the name the first time!
And since I'm not changing my name to something shorter---as there are too many other things I'd lose or have to repeat photos added friends added, etc, if I did that....at least my suggestion here may help others in signing up as members!
