Those airport shows used to be one of my guilty pleasure programmes. Sometimes they showed the stories of young kids travelling alone. It always surprised me how calm some of them were.

Maybe he'll be a nervous flier all his life. At least in his youth he can get away with bruising the person next to him for support. :]

My nieces fly unaccompanied when they come up here. They enjoy flying though. I don't think either of them have fears of it. And they've done it so often now, they know how everything works.

This kid clearly didnt, and from what i gathered he was being shuffled from parent to parent, so it probably wasnt an enjoyable trip.

I was unaccompanied the first time I flew and I wasn't nervous at all. In retrospect, I'm surprised I wasn't. (Can you be surprised in retrospect?)

But we're not aware of everything all of the time. As a child, you were aware of the experience of flying alone, but not that it was something we're expected to be afraid of. Now, as an adult, you can look back on something you knew previously, yet be aware of - and surprised by - something you didn't.
