Trying my hand at the LSI Madness game with an edition involving some of our planet's cutest animals. Hope you like it. Each round will be up for at least a few days to give members time to vote; there'll be 64 creatures in total for you to whittle down to one: the cutest by majority vote.

There aren't really any rules other than the website's usual, but I do ask that you click the links to check out each of the images. Hopefully there will be a few creatures you were previously unfamiliar with.

N.B. There are a boatload of adorable puppy, kitten, rabbit, etc. pics out there, and pretty much every baby/young animal is cute - thus, I've gone with less obvious choices, the images of which should be adults.

I also opted for photos where the creatures are in a natural habitat; are alone; and in which most or all of their body is showing. Hence, the linked images might not be the cutest of each animal, but they're "fair".

Get ready to make some tough choices, folks.

WINNER: Ermines

Just commenting on the various statements you and Lisa made, that's all.

Thanks for the information about the 1960's unofficial election of the Robin (and strange current election you posted)... [now if they were to decide the vote on "cuteness" alone ]

I hope, the short names won't be a problem.

Penguin . . (Antelope's super-skinny legs scared me)

Hedgehog . . (C'mon, it's cuter than that womb-at)

Panda . . (*sings* We're lazy-fellas!)

Foxy . . (I demand, this very cute animal to win!)

[none] . . (They scared me. Why does the caterpillar's name contain other creatures name too?)

Squirrel . . (I demand, this animal to win too. *sings* S-I-M-P, Squirrel in my pants)

Pony . . (I've always wanted a pony. & who doesn't like pony?)

Weasel . . (Other thingy, Axolotl scared me (again). What is this thing?)

They're not a problem. Great comments!

The axolotl is an amphibian (despite also being known as a "Mexican walking fish"), but unlike other amphibians it stays gilled and in the sea during its adult life.

The caterpillar of the elephant hawk-moth has "elephant" in its name because, "the caterpillars...have a trunk-like section just behind the head". They extend or retract it as a defense mechanism. I'm not sure about the "hawk" part, but perhaps the person who named the moth saw it with its wings spread out and felt it looked like a hawk?

I'm actually not a fan of horses, but I do like the Shetland pony.

The royal antelope's super skinny legs are weird to me, too.

Haha. I like bugs...most of them. :p Although, having said that, I don't encounter many different species here.

I think we'll give this round until UK night time on Monday.

Obviously I won't count her vote, but Mil (my niece) did this, too. Hers were

Royal antelope
Wombat
Panda
Fennec fox
Piglet squid
Japanese Dwarf Flying Squirrel
Elephant shrew
Least weasel

I really wish I'd recorded her reactions; her face when she saw the Elephant Hawk-moth Caterpillar was hilarious.

Part 2 comin' up.
