*Introductory theme tune*

To the eclipse (what eclipses remind me of - one of my all time favourite ads).

Edit: Also to Sarah, whose birthday it is today (Sunday).

Rules of the quiz:
- One answer per person (per round)
- Always give the answer you think the fewest amount of people would know
- If two people give the same answer in a short space of time, the first person's answer will be accepted (but the second can answer again)
- When applicable, a player may pick the same subject as another contestant and provide a different answer if they believe the other to be incorrect
- If you play the first round, please check back in case you make it through to Round #2
- Resist cheating (i.e. looking up answers; asking others)

And of course, respect your fellow contestants and have fun!

Round #1 will be posted shortly and will remain open until Monday (or, when applicable, until each answer is taken) to give everyone a chance of replying.

* offtopic :
The records of previous winners and pointless answers can be found here.

Are you kidding me? I skipped past a few thinking that they'd be too well-known and they scored lower than me. F word.

ROUND #2

They couldn't let you go out on your birthday week, Sarah. The category for Round #2 is...

NUMBERS

And the question concerns...

NUMERICAL VALUES

Pretty much the same thing? I'm going to give you fourteen clues now and the answer to each of them is a number. As always, you're aiming to give me the most obscure answer. Hopefully the geographical differences won't matter too much.

NUMBER OF TIMES MANCHESTER UNITED HAVE WON THE FA CUP UP TO 2014

NUMBER OF SIDES OF A NONAGON

TOTAL NUMBER OF INDIVIDUAL BLACK AND WHITE SQUARES ON A CHESS BOARD

NUMBER OF MONTHS IN A DECADE

NUMBER OF CARATS IN PURE GOLD

NUMBER OF BALLS ON A FULL-SIZED TABLE AT THE START OF A SNOOKER MATCH

NUMBER OF DEGREES IN A RIGHT ANGLE

NUMBER OF PINTS IN A GALLON

NUMBER OF CARDS IN A STANDARD PACK OF PLAYING CARDS, NOT INCLUDING THE JOKERS

NUMBER OF OUNCES IN A POUND

NUMBER OF PREMOLARS IN THE NORMAL ADULT MOUTH

NUMBER OF US CENTS IN A DIME

MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PLAYERS ON THE COURT IN EACH BASKETBALL TEAM

NUMBER OF YARDS IN A MILE

Carl: 82 (90)

Sarah: 69 (9)
Lisa: 44 (24)
Sierra: 23 (1760)

Good job, Joe and Jen. Jen is on a strong streak of five head-to-heads in a row; a first for any of our players, I believe. Commiserations to the rest of you, but thanks for playing.

There was only one better answer on there and I wouldn't have expected any of you to know it - oddly (in my opinion ;p), the number of times Manchester United have won the FA Cup up to 2014, which was eleven times and scored only three points.

I think the clue to the high scorers in that question was the artists themselves - how well-known they are as solo artists and personalities - rather than mainly being about the bands they were in.

Forgot to add it last time - MORRISSEY (THE SMITHS) scored 52 points.

What Joey said. And taking into consideration the average age of the people playing the game. I am very likely wrong in this assumption and just lucky, but I've for some reason kinda assumed the majority playing on the show are average age of 40+. So anything big in the 70s-80s would be their prime young adult years. The 90s stuff is more their kids, so I don't expect them to know answers around then as often. I dunno, I'm rambling, but so far this has worked for me most of the time.

HEAD-TO-HEAD, PART 1

Congrats again, Joe and Jen. Rhyyyme. You'll now face each other in this first-to-three round. Your first question concerns...

THE HOBBIT

I'm going to give you five clues to facts about 'The Hobbit'. Can you tell me the most obscure answer? Good luck!

NAME OF THE DRAGON WHO CAPTURED THE LONELY MOUNTAIN

NAME OF THE NEW ZEALANDER WHO DIRECTED THE 2012 FILM

MAIN HOBBIT CHARACTER WITH THE LAST NAME BAGGINS

NUMBER OF DWARVES WHO EMBARK ON THE ADVENTURE WITH THE HOBBIT

IT WAS WRITTEN BY THIS BRITISH AUTHOR
