Dedicated to our three recent birthday girls.

*Introductory theme tune*

Last week saw our pointless answers leader board shook up a bit. Jen is now only one behind B, Sierra's stacking them up, and Practice is shooting up there quite quickly for a newcomer. Jeremy also added his name to it. So let's see what this week's quiz can produce...let's play Pointless!

Rules of the quiz:
- One answer per person (per round)
- Always give the answer you think the fewest amount of people would know
- If two people give the same answer in a short space of time, the first person's answer will be accepted (but the second can answer again)
- When applicable, a player may pick the same subject as another contestant and provide a different answer if they believe the other to be incorrect
- If you play the first round, please check back in case you make it through to Round #2
- Resist cheating (i.e. searching online for answers)

And of course, respect your fellow contestants and have fun!

Round #1 will be posted shortly and will remain open until Monday (or, when applicable, until each answer is taken) to give everyone a chance of replying.

So, Jen, the subject is FIELDS OF STUDY - the common name for what these are the study of (I've taken away the ones other contestants have given).

ANEMOLOGY
VEXILLOLOGY
CYTOLOGY
MYOLOGY
DENDROLOGY
NOMOLOGY
ANATOMY

Dang it, I suck at these. I pretty much only know the ones dealing with the body, maybe a couple others.

Since nomology reminds me of nomenclature, let's go with that.

Nomology - study of laws or law? something about rules/structure?! logic?

I don't know!

ROUND #2 RESULTS

Not a bad bunch of scores considering the round, and tough luck for our new-comer...

Kaleb: 77 (SKIN)
Sarah: 14 (COLOURS)
Sierra: 11 (WINE)
Anthony: 7 (FISH)

Jen: 6 (LAW)
Practice: 2 (CLOUDS)

...who's knocked out by a point. Well done to Jen and Practice, who go through to the Head-to-Head. Commiserations to the rest of you.

If anyone wants to fill in any of the gaps, feel free.

Before I post the next round, here are the other answers.

Practice took the best answer on the board, but ANEMOLOGY was the second best - that's the study of WINDS, and it scored 4 points.

MYOLOGY would've pipped Jen's answer by a point - it's the study of MUSCLES and it scored 5.

Knowing VEXILLOLOGY would've seen a draw with Jen; 6 of the 100 people knew it was the study of FLAGS (I know the name from the QuizUp app's flags quiz - great to play and learn from).

CYTOLOGY is the study of CELLS; scored 11 points.

DENDROLOGY - trees! I learnt about tree ring dating in Archaeology in school (dendrochronology). TREES scored 12.

Lastly, only 74 people knew ANATOMY is the study of THE BODY.

HEAD-TO-HEAD, PART 1

Good luck to you both, Practice and Jen, in our best-of-three Head-to-Head round. Your first question concerns...

PEOPLE WITH ELMO

I'm going to show you five images now of famous people with Elmo from Sesame Street. Your aim is, as always, to name the most obscure.

A
B
C
D
E

Again, thanks for congrats...
I feel sorry that a new comer Ant=Anthony? just missed it by one point... it hurts!

Anyway.... as its always custom here whoever goes first now goes second next time.... so given I know only two, and Jen can't pick two, I feel safe in letting her go first.. if she picks one of my two, I'll take the other one, both I think are high scores (one face is turned away---I could not recognize that at all--good luck Jen!)

I think if you knew this person, you'd recognise them regardless of their face being turned.

PracticePractic | 28-01-2015 03:26
yes and no, the way I recognize people....

I'll wait for the answers for that one (its only one so I'm not that concerned) Just that the other photos they gave are all perfect and to think that was the only still photo from that episode with Elmo? They must have taken it from the video, a still frame, or even a photographer commemorating the moment... I'm certain if he was famous, they would have taken more than that one photo.... ok just forget it..... I just was pointing that out that's all... no complaints!

I tried to find another image for you, but that does seem to be the only one, sorry.

Do you have problems with facial recognition? Interesting subject; I studied it for one of my Psychology modules at university.

Argh, I can't decide which ones will be least known. I recognize the guy in 'E,' but conveniently, I can't recall his name.

C - Norah Jones

D is Tony Bennett All I can hope is if his score is lower than Jen's choice, that's all.....

About the earlier message... Thanks for trying on the photos Joey--- remember I said "yes" and "no" about facial recognition....It would take pages, but shortened it is "yes" I NEVER forget a face---names? that's a "no".... I can't even introduce you to lifelong relatives, let alone get the names right (given time, yes) but not as everyone else does it with fast, on the spot introductions... I'd fail at this part of the game show....

Same here, Jen. But I think I recognize him from something in Pointless before (another facial recognition?). I don't think he's in programs that are regularly shown in the US.

I'd be surprised if the three of you knew him from anywhere other than the quiz (I can't remember any previous questions with him in, but I'd trust Sarah's memory over mine). That said, perhaps he's appeared on something over there and I simply don't know about it.

On the computer now, sorry for the wait.

In the order they were given, Jen has said C is the singer NORAH JONES. Let's see if that's right and what it scores her.

One point! Practice is going to have to get a pointless answer with Tony Bennett to beat that.

Nope! Twenty-seven points for the crooner. (Did anyone see the Tony Bennett-Lady Gaga show?) We haven't seen Norah Jones for a while; I guess we forgot what she looks like. I wonder if she's come yet.

One for Jen... Guess I have to make it next question to stay in game, right?
And dying to know... who is E???

You do indeed.

E is EAMONN HOLMES. He's a British television presenter.

OPRAH WINFREY scored an impressive (given the audience) 80 points, but VENUS WILLIAMS somehow scored a measly 8 points!
