Dedicated to our three recent birthday girls.

*Introductory theme tune*

Last week saw our pointless answers leader board shook up a bit. Jen is now only one behind B, Sierra's stacking them up, and Practice is shooting up there quite quickly for a newcomer. Jeremy also added his name to it. So let's see what this week's quiz can produce...let's play Pointless!

Rules of the quiz:
- One answer per person (per round)
- Always give the answer you think the fewest amount of people would know
- If two people give the same answer in a short space of time, the first person's answer will be accepted (but the second can answer again)
- When applicable, a player may pick the same subject as another contestant and provide a different answer if they believe the other to be incorrect
- If you play the first round, please check back in case you make it through to Round #2
- Resist cheating (i.e. searching online for answers)

And of course, respect your fellow contestants and have fun!

Round #1 will be posted shortly and will remain open until Monday (or, when applicable, until each answer is taken) to give everyone a chance of replying.

ROUND #1

Our first category today is...

LANGUAGES

And the question concerns...

CAPITAL CITIES IN THEIR NATIVE LANGUAGE

I'm going to show you the names of fourteen capital cities, but written in their native language. You need to tell me the English name for each of these capitals. Might sound tough, but you'll probably find the hardest thing is working out the obscurity. Good luck!

WIEN
ATHINAI
BUCURESTI
KUNG THEP

I feel like it's quite difficult to discern which of (most of) them is least obscure.

I think they're difficult.

Maybe they look weird written like that. Contestants on the show also hear the host speak them out loud, which I think can help.

Taking the last one in the list...thinking maybe the audience ran out of choices by then?

There are a couple that I don't know at all and a few that I think I know but I'm not confident about.

You mean time, Practice? Possibly. I don't know if they're presented to the 100 people the same way they're presented to the contestants. In Rounds #1 and #2, contestants often* see two boards per round. They're in pairs, so they choose who goes first and that person will pick an answer from (usually) a board of seven in Round #1. Once the first person from each of the four pairs has given an answer and received their score, the board usually changes* and the people answering second will see a new board of seven. So, in this case, the boards were split like this

TARABULUS
LISBOA
LA HABANA
WIEN
ATHINAI
BUCURESTI
KUNG THEP

----

KOBENHAVN
WARSZAWA
BAILE ATHA CLIATH
MANSK
AL-QAHIRAH
ROMA
PRAHA

In the Head-to-Head, the pairs are allowed to confer, so it's a different format.

*There are different types of rounds, so this isn't always the case. Boards stay the same throughout open rounds (e.g. 'WORDS ENDING ...OO'), and there are some other differences between older and newer episodes.

Sorry, Ant - happy for you to participate, but it's one answer per person. The aim is always to pick the one you think scores the lowest - the most obscure.

If you can answer again with just one?

Doesn't matter that you spelt it wrong, Sarah. Spelling only matters in words rounds, or if you give a name but it's a bit too off, e.g. if you said my name was Joan Clarke instead of Joanna.

Hahaha. Nah, B's a sweetheart.

Ant, I give the answers at the end of the round after posting the results (if I remember ) so you're welcome to fill in the ones you know then (before I do) if no one has given them. Always pick the one you think will be the most obscure as your actual answer, though.
