I just started playing guitar about two months ago and I was wondering what songs would be easy to begin on?

how to read tab:

The letters at the side tell you the notes the guitar is tuned to. Standard tuning is EADGBe:

e <--- thinnest string
B
G
D
A
E <--- thickest string

The numbers on each line tell you which fret to press down on while plucking or strumming the string:

e---------------
B--------1------
G----0----0-----
D-2---2--------- "Under The Bridge" by the Red
A3-------------- Hot Chili Peppers (easier version)
E---------------

This means:

Press 3rd fret on A string and pluck.
Press 2nd fret on D string and pluck.
Press no fret (open) on G string and pluck.
Press 2nd fret on D string and pluck.
Press 1st fret on B string and pluck.
Leave G open and pluck.

If more than one number is in the same vertical column, they are to be played simultaneously (a chord):

e-------------------------------------------------------
B------------------------------------------------------
D7-7-7-7-7777--66--44-4-4-4-4444--66--7--------
G7-7-7-7-7777--66--44-4-4-4-4444--66--7--------
A5-5-5-5-5555--44--22-2-2-2-2222--44--5--------
E------------------------------------------------------

"Teenage Kicks" by The Undertones

This formation is known as a power chord and can be applied to any fret.

(x+2) }
(x+2) } Fret numbers.
(x) }

That's how to read tab. Play the numbers.

sorry, i meant that to go to dannyb. Get an electric tuner there really good, i had the exact same problem. It doesn't always matter about the names of the chords because no one remebers them like that.

yea, you can get electric tuners for any type of guitar, i play acoustic, but i have only been playing a few weeks. They remember the positions of where their hands go and what strings, if you know what i mean. i learnt most of this from my cousin, but he is great at guitar.
