So my song help thread is long dead at this point and I don't want to bump it. However, I do want to reboot the thread in a new sort of way.

I've mentioned in my previous thread before that when transcribing songs, I came to the realization that if I post my transcription with missing parts, then those missing parts will also sound indecipherable to another listener's ears. However, if I just let them transcribe the whole song themselves, they may hear it perfectly clear. So that is what I'm going to do this time around and see if this works out; I'll be posting links to songs that anyone here can feel free to give a shot at transcribing.

When I began my old thread, several different users were helping me transcribe songs, but by the end of its course, it all came down to solely Joeyy helping me and no one else. I want to see if that can change this time. Of course I can't control whether that can change or not, but I noticed tequizasunrise and kalsonberry were very instrumental in helping myself and others transcribe lyrics before, so hopefully I can recruit them to assist in my endeavors once again. If this thread fails once more, I'll probably try bringing it to another music forum and see how that fares.

Anyways, without further ado, I'll start with these five songs:

Milquetoast & Co. - "Love and Tonic"
Jigsaw - "I've Seen the Film, I've Read the Book"
Strawberry Alarm Clock - "Sea Shell"
Jo Jo Gunne - "I Wanna Love You"
Acid Witch - "Intro" (This track's "lyrics" are spoken-word, and there is literally one word I am unsure about)

And please don't feel unaccomplished if you can't make out every single word, any assistance helps me a lot. Thanks!

Alrighty

The Fixx - Fatal Shore (lyrics sheet)
The Fixx - Life's What's Killing Me (lyrics sheet)
The Fixx - We Once Held Hands (Can't provide a readable lyrics sheet image, but I typed out what it has for the song)

As I said, the singer doesn't follow the lyrics sheet very well at all and diverts from most of the lines, so I don't think it will be a big help. But hopefully you can help me finish these. I've had trouble with them for almost a year now.

Bump. Any luck with these, Roxcyn?

I guess everyone gave up on those.

Those are still on the table for transcribing, but here's one more:

Jay Ferguson - Let Me Believe In You

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

Sorry, I've gotten pretty busy. I transcribed the first one, but I wanted to listen to it some more to get some of the words that are missing.

'Tis a shame. Well, if you want to take a break from them briefly to transcribe the Jay Ferguson song for me, I'd appreciate that. There's really just one or two words in it that I couldn't figure out.

Here's what I heard:

Jay Ferguson - "Let Me Believe In You" lyrics

So tell me what can I do?
You know I gotta get next to you
You're not the usual kind
And I just can't get you out of mind
Out of my mind

And if you're telling me that you want me
I gotta know that it's true
I don't believe in miracles, baby
but let me believe in you

Just let me know where I stand
before this feeling gets out of hand
I wanna turn, I wanna run
I'm so afraid you might be the one
You might be the one

So don't be telling me you want me
unless you know it's true
I don't believe in miracles, baby
Just let me believe in you

'Cause I, I need to feel something that's real in my life
Girl, don't let it wait
Show me the place I can hide
Is there a place left inside of your heart?

And if the world falls through
We're all be crazy counting on you
I need you here every day
To know your love's just a moment way
One moment away

So if you're telling me that you want me
I gotta know that it's true
I don't believe in miracles, baby
Just let me believe in you, yeah

Thank you so much! I couldn't figure out the line "I wanna turn, I wanna run". Looking back at it I'm shocked at how simple the line was.

I'll let you work on the Fixx songs now. I just figured I'd post that one here since it was just one song.

Here we go. MCMeister, someone posted in the video this one might be a demo version? You'll have to double check on that. Also, some words I'm still unsure of. It's a pretty hard song lyric!

The Fixx - "Fatal Shore" lyrics

So we've reached the fatal shore
Some have gained while some have suffered
Though our quest wants for always more
We only took from those we conquered

Back to ground
These genes of mine, the wheels of time will always go
Round and round
Back to ground
The soul we sell, the living tells
The story well round and round.

So we made a battlefield
We mixed our blood as perfect strangers
This was life and death so very real
The winners needs were the losers dangers.

Back to ground
The soul we sell, the living tells
Round and round

Round and round
Round and round
Hey, we skittle across the gene pool
And our chromosomes come raining down
Raining down
As the waters starts to raise
Then we realize

So we've reached the city walls
Where the last poor fool spluttered
He said, "Though my children never knew
They served their purpose like the others"

Round and round
Round and round
Hey, we skittle across the gene pool
And our chromosomes come raining down
Raining down
Carrying the fatal four

Hit that ground
Round and round
Swimming to the fatal shore!

(Round and round and round...)
Carry it to the fatal shore
So we've reached the city walls
So we've reached the fatal shore
Swimming to the fatal shore
So we've reached the fatal shore
We made blood our battlefield
The quest is forever more
Carrying the fatal four
Oh, carrying the fatal four
Swimming to the fatal shore
Carrying the fatal four
Carrying the fatal four
Four, four, four
Swimming to the fatal shore

No? The one I linked is the studio version. I listened to the version that's on the album so I can confirm that it's not any demo version.

I have to admit though, this is pretty close. I did a lot of fixing (no pun intended) to your lyrics and got as close as I could. However, I'm very confused about that line "carrying the fatal four" - it's the line that caused me to give up on transcribing this song twice (really, that whole ending part that has like 3 different parts at the same time caused me to give up). I found a forum topic on the Fixx forums that says it may be "carrying the fatal flaw" - which would make sense, considering "fatal flaw" is a concept in literature that depicts a character's weakness or big mistake. But at the same time, "fatal four" would rhyme better with "the quest was for always more" and "swimming to the fatal shore" at the end...but what is a "fatal four"? A Google search didn't give me anything that was really related to the lyrics. Ultimately I kept it as "fatal flaw" - which may or may not be right, but I'm 99% sure about the rest, so it's better than nothing.

The lyrics aren't quite on the site yet as The Fixx has a moderator, so these will need to get approved by him, but see here for my finalized lyrics. I think it's as close as I've ever gotten, save for the one line I already mentioned.

Thanks for finally helping with this song, though! I'm glad I could submit these lyrics after almost a year of difficulty. Hopefully the next two won't be as tough and won't take as long.

Nice! There was two website that I used that helped me out on the song. Now, that I think about it as I listen to it again it might be "flaw" as they're talking about chromosomes and DNA.

PS - There's an artist I like that just puts the "poem" that inspired the song as the lyrics in the CD. It's kind of annoying because then you don't know what she said on some of the tracks.

Yeah, I found some of the sites you used to do this when I was hunting down info about the song lyrics. And I agree - I really hate when artists only put partial lyrics in the lyrics booklet, it makes it so difficult. The Fixx does that on several of their albums, which is why I'll have to take a few more of their songs to this thread.

When do you think you'll do have time to do one of these next songs?

I worked on the one with the la la la (or the repeating words, sorry I forget the title) last night. They sound like a cool band! . Hopefully I have them done in seven days.

* offtopic :
I've been working in the queue a lot as Snap is loading a lot of songs! By the way, would you help me with one? I posted it on my thread. Some of the words I'm thinking twice about. Thanks.

The "la la la" song? I'm not familiar with what you're talking about. But anyways, I hope you finish these soon, too. I've been stuck on these Fixx songs for over a month because you've been so busy.

After these, I need help on a song that has some Spanish lines. Good thing you're fluent in Spanish.

While he has for the most part, I always appreciate getting feedback from more than one person, because sometimes one person can figure out lines another can't.

I hope this one helps. I'm not 100% sure about some parts. Let me know if you have any concerns.

The Fixx - "We Once Held Hands" lyrics

Salt, deep in the earth
Salt, has its worth
Salt, three kings, a birth
What's it worth?
Mine, well it's all for me
Mine, I'll dig it for free
With slavery, wait and see

We once held hands
We once held hands
We once held hands
In this common land
We once held hands
We once held hands
We once held hands
We had no plans

Oil, the blood that spoils
Oil, the hand that toils
Oil, the gun that recoils where's the oil?
Mine, well it's all for me
Mine, I'll pump it free
With slavery
Dead sea, wait and see, yeah

We once held hands
We once held hands
We once held hands
In this common land
We once held hands
We once held hands
We once held hands
Falling close to man

Blood, running red
Blood, I want his head
Blood, alive or dead, rage is fed
Crime, humanity
Crime, hostility
Crime, religiously
Impose your will, blood will spill.

We once held hands
We once held hands
We once held hands
In this common land
We once held hands
We once held hands
We once held hands
Falling close to man

On shifting sand
In this common land
We once held hands

Salt, it will preserve
Salt, deep in the earth
Salt, sweet kings of Earth
What's it worth?
Mine, well it's all for me
Mine, can I have it for free?
Mine, with slavery, dead sea, wait and see

We once held hands
We once held hands
We once held hands
In this common land
We once held hands
We once held hands
We once held hands
Falling close to man

We once held hands
We once held hands (falling to man)
We once held hands
In this common land
We once held hands (falling to man)
We once held hands
We once held hands
Oh, oh, shooting sands!
We once held hands
We once held hands
We once held hands

Here's this one. It's pretty hard and there's some phrases I'm not sure of what he's saying.

NB: When they're singing at the same time I put the second part in brackets [ ].

The Fixx - "Life's What's Killing Me" lyrics

La, la, la, la, life
Whoa, oh, oh
La, la, la, la, life
La, la, la, la, life
Whoa, oh, oh
La, la, la, la, life

Ooh, sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet
It's so bittersweet
I cry, I cry, I cry
The secrets I keep
Red, red, red, red, red
All the headlines are blue
Are they true?
There is lies, lies, lies, lies, lies
Down from who?
It's a parody
The TV's controlling me
I'm in pain, I'm in pain
I feel fake you see

CHORUS:
Yeah
'Cause it's life, it's life, it's life that's killing me [La, la, la, la, life; whoa, oh, oh]
La, la, la, la, life, yeah
It's life, it's life, it's life that's killing me [La, la, la, la, life; whoa, oh, oh]
La, la, la, la, life

Run, run, run, run, run
On the spot, I can't hide
I'm not going anywhere yet
Come, come, come, come, come
To my senses in time.

You know I burn, burn, burn, burn, burn
A candle for hope
I can't cope at all
Fire, fire, fire, fire
It goes up in smoke.

There is irony
To my destiny
Won't you suck and see?
What's real, it seems fake to me.

CHORUS:
Yeah
'Cause it's life, it's life, it's life that's killing me [La, la, la, la, life; whoa, oh, oh]
La, la, la, la, life, yeah
It's life, it's life, it's life in front of me [La, la, la, la, life; whoa, oh, oh]
La, la, la, la, life, yeah

Ooh, whatcha got to give?
Yeah, whatcha got?
Ooh, give it to me anyway
Give it to me anyway
Take it or leave it
To my destiny I would say one thing
Yeah, one thing
Give it to me straight
Give it to me anyway

CHORUS & ENDING:
'Cause it's life, it's life, it's life that's killing me [La, la, la, la, life; whoa, oh, oh]
La, la, la, la, life, oh yeah
It's life, it's life, it's life that's killing me [La, la, la, la, life; whoa, oh, oh]
La, la, la, la, life, yeah
Oh, yes it is
It's life, it's life, it's life that's killing me
Give it to me straight now!
It's life, it's life, it's life that's killing me [La, la, la, la, life; whoa, oh, oh]
La, la, la, la, life
Oh, la, la, la, la, life [The way I see it], whoa, oh, oh
The way I want it [La, la, la, la, life]
The way I take it
Give it to me anyway
Give it to me anyway
I'll take what you got
I'll take what you got
Give it to me anyway
La, la, la, la, life; whoa, oh, oh

I'm a bit iffy on "We Once Held Hands" - that line you marked as "falling close to man" was what tripped me up each time. I'm pretty sure it's not that - it sounds more like "the vine grows stick man", or I at least hear a "-ck" sound in that line. Because of the way he sings it, it's a bit hard to decipher. I think I'll hold off from submitting that one for now.

I'm very impressed on "Life's What's Killing Me", though! It all sounds good. You solved a lot of parts I never did and I submitted it to CarlJ with some minor fixes, like always. The only parts you seemed to have missed was a "The way I picture it" at the end, before "The way I take it", and there was another "I'll take what you got" at the very end as the song is fading out. But I added those in. I'm glad this batch is finally done!

Next, that song I mentioned that had some Spanish in it: "Rooftops in Spain" by The Presidents of the United States of America.

You can find partial lyrics here, but there are a few question marks in the second Spanish verse. Hopefully you're fluent enough to figure this out with ease. I think the rest of it is right except for "Que tal a new day", that sounds a little off. Anyways, good luck!

Oh wow, can't believe I missed this - in the comment section of the lyrics I linked for "Rooftops in Spain", someone posted the correct lyrics for that Spanish verse! I guess I don't need help on this one anymore, then. I'll post a new batch here soon.

Hold it MCSMeister, don't post it yet. So, there are some minor grammar errors of what he says, do you want me to correct them OR leave it as he has spoken?

PS - should I translate it to English?
MCSMeister

MCSMeister | 29-07-2015 16:16
Oh, if there's grammar errors in the transcription, then go ahead and post them here. I already posted it on the site but I can always edit it if there's grammatical errors, don't worry.

Also, you can translate it to English if you want, but you don't have to - if it helps you to better understand what he says, though, then go for it.

The Presidents of the United States of America - "Rooftops in Spain" lyrics

Drunken promises made upon rooftops in Spain, aw uh huh
Uh huh
Drunken promises made upon rooftops in Spain, aw uh huh
Uh huh

I'll walk your gato back to your casa tonight
I'll feed (~) you más cerveza, and wine rojo alright
El río lobo del macho (!) agua
We get boca to boca, habla la pequeña vaca

La luna es la estupidez (*)
¿Qué tal de (@) new day?
What's your name?

Drunken promises made upon rooftops in Spain, uh huh
Uh uh
Drunken promises made upon rooftops in Spain, aw uh huh
Uh uh, aw huh

No me molesta, buenas tardes porque
habla más lentamente
Perdido pasaporte
Tengo dolor de muelas
Vaca rojo (#), vivo
No, tengo hermano
Tiene más años que yo

La luna es la estupidez (*)
¿Qué tal de (@) new day?
What's your name?

Drunken promises made upon rooftops in Spain, aw uh huh
Uh huh
Drunken promises made upon rooftops in Spain, aw uh huh
Uh huh

Broken promises made upon rooftops in Spain, aw uh huh
Uh huh
Drunken promises made, promises made, promises made, promises made

------------------------------------------------------------------------
My notes:
(~) - Doesn't make sense for the context
(!) - probably wants to say "mucho", but he says "macho"
(*) - he mispronounces this word entirely
(@) - he says "de" but it's wrong to say it here.
(#) - Should be "roja", but he says "rojo" here.
