So my song help thread is long dead at this point and I don't want to bump it. However, I do want to reboot the thread in a new sort of way.

I've mentioned in my previous thread before that when transcribing songs, I came to the realization that if I post my transcription with missing parts, then those missing parts will also sound indecipherable to another listener's ears. However, if I just let them transcribe the whole song themselves, they may hear it perfectly clear. So that is what I'm going to do this time around and see if this works out; I'll be posting links to songs that anyone here can feel free to give a shot at transcribing.

When I began my old thread, several different users were helping me transcribe songs, but by the end of its course, it all came down to solely Joeyy helping me and no one else. I want to see if that can change this time. Of course I can't control whether that can change or not, but I noticed tequizasunrise and kalsonberry were very instrumental in helping myself and others transcribe lyrics before, so hopefully I can recruit them to assist in my endeavors once again. If this thread fails once more, I'll probably try bringing it to another music forum and see how that fares.

Anyways, without further ado, I'll start with these five songs:

Milquetoast & Co. - "Love and Tonic"
Jigsaw - "I've Seen the Film, I've Read the Book"
Strawberry Alarm Clock - "Sea Shell"
Jo Jo Gunne - "I Wanna Love You"
Acid Witch - "Intro" (This track's "lyrics" are spoken-word, and there is literally one word I am unsure about)

And please don't feel unaccomplished if you can't make out every single word, any assistance helps me a lot. Thanks!

Let me listen to it later and I will see. Well she was actually victim of abuse and her spouse made her do porn. We learned about her in my Women's' studies class.

Yeah, even still, that seems like too risque of a subject for Moore to put in his lyrics. I'm quite positive I hear that "r" sound so I doubt it's her. Here's the rest of the lyrics from the lyrics sheet if it helps any, perhaps for context.

Hi! Now I'm hearing something a little different. "They got Linda Lovelace racing as she's coaching a giraffe."

I read her biography and her then spouse supposedly forced her to do peep show videos. It would fit the context. What does your pal think?

I'm not too sure, really. I don't hear "Lovelace racing" at all, it sounds like either "love racing" or "Lovelace in". And I still hear that "r" sound so I'm inclined to believe it's the former. I might just leave this one alone for now.

Maybe ask Joey, Sierra or some other member about it? You can go ahead and submit it with the ? mark like your pal has it.

It's definitely "they got Linda Lovelace in and she's coaching a giraffe." But then I hear "Ooooh the poooor cat's drunk"

There you go, Nicolas! I think Meg nailed it with the line in question!

I still don't hear the "l" sound in "lace" and think it sounds like "r". But I guess I'll submit it.

And Megdoll, the lyrics sheet says that next line is "Ooh, the polecat's drunk", and I hear that.

Alrighty, now I have another one by the same artist we need help with:

"Crisis in the Thin Yard"

All of this song is in the lyrics booklet, but since the image is so small I can't read it very well for this line. At 2:52, Moore sings "Oh no, tell my wife in San ???". It's the name of a location, but it's not one that I recognize, and it's not San Francisco or Bernadino. It sounds like it's pronounced "San Ber-coo" but it's not spelled that way. Maybe someone who is more well-versed in location names than me will recognize it.

Sounds like Sam Perdue

But I don't know why he would be singing about a juvenile detention center
It's located in West Virginia

I don't hear "Sam Perdue", I still hear that "c" sound in the second word, sounds like "ber-coo" to me but I know it's not spelled like that.

I'll wait and see what Roxcyn hears.

Well, the previous song's line is still on the table (Roxcyn, if you want to give it a try, go for it) but I have another one to post here:

The Souther-Hillman-Furay Band - "The Heartbreaker"

This supergroup has all of their lyrics online, but a few of the songs had lines missing. I was able to transcribe most of the missing lines in said songs except for on this one. Skip to 2:30 onwards, that's all I need help with here.

The heartbreaker (Heartbreaker)
.....
Don't you know that the, the heartbreaker
Is comin' to town

Like before, I left the line entirely blank so my interpretation of it doesn't influence anyone else's. I usually don't like to do it like this (like I said in the OP over a year ago ) but I feel like it'd be wasting someone's time if they just transcribe lyrics to an entire song that already has most of its lyrics online. So for short snippets of already-existing online lyrics, I'd prefer doing it this way.

Here's the rest of the lyrics if it helps for context at all.

Regarding Tim Moore's "Crisis in the thin yard", it sounds like he says "San Berdoo". Thanks to internet search it states that there are several nicknames for San Bernadino one being "San Berdoo"

Nickname(s): SB; San Berdoo; Berdoo; Gate City; City on the Move; The Friendly City; The Heart of Southern California

Source

Nicolas, I'll take a look at the other song in a few, ok?

Awesome I got a few results for San Bernadino when I was Googling anything that sounded like it but I didn't think that was it. Thanks!

I'll look forward to your take on the other song.

All I got was "the heartbreaker (heartbreaker). I will show you... Don't you know that look? The heartbreaker"

Sorry. Doesn't help much

I hope it helps.

The Souther-Hillman-Furay Band - "The Heartbreaker" lyrics

You want to make up the rules as you go
You think he plays too rough
But you could have all the luck in the world
And man it might not be enough.

He's got a star on his shoulder
You see it shinning (shinning)
but you can see it's a cheat
The heartbreaker, he's a hard one to beat.

It makes you mad to see him win
But the girls keep comin' around
He plays dirty and he plays for keeps
But he's got that magic sound.

A song and a suitcase and a rodeo smile
Lifewrecker, just a picture of style.

Your lady loves him, she's waitin' in school
I guess (she's waiting) he's everything you want to be
(You know she's waiting)
But then how you gonna make him look like a fool?
He's got a vision you can't even see.

He's mister deliver, he never lets you down
And now the lifewrecker (lifewrecker) is comin' to town.

The heartbreaker (heartbreaker) - aw, you show your part
Don't you know?
The heartbreaker is comin' to town.

Thank you! Yup, it did help. The line I couldn't figure out does make sense here, so I submitted the lyrics just now.

I'm back with another song I need help with. Not too sure if you guys will figure it out, since the singer's singing style is a bit hard to make out at parts. But I'm giving it a try:

Cold Water Flat - "Virus Road"

Here's what I hear:

Wake myself up to this war
'Cause tonight I know I'll fall
God, I'm such a simple man
What else is there in this hand?
What else can I say?
But how do I get outta here?

The wait inside is no more fun
'Cause tonight I know I've won
God, it's such a suicide
What else can I do but hide?
What else can I say?
But how do I get outta here?
What else is there left? But freedom
Right in front of me
Will I be free?
When will I be free? Yeah

Life tonight is so unsure
Just help me through the painted door
God, it's such a heavy load
What's left on this virus road?
What else can I say?
But how do I get outta here?
What else is there left? But freedom
Reigns on top of me
I have won
I have won
Freedom
Yes, I have won, won
Yeah!

I'm not too sure about some of the breaks in the song (I was tempted to break it up more - you can decide), but hopefully the lyrics aren't too off.

Wow! This is actually near spot-on, I think (much better than the trainwreck I had!) Thank you very much, this quite surprised me. This is a big reason why I love this new format of my transcription thread that I've been working with, because if I had posted my wildly-incorrect transcription it probably would have made this a bit more difficult. I'll make some adjustments to this and submit it now. I think really the only thing I'm changing is some missing "yeah"s that blend after the first two "What else can I say?"s and a few line breaks, since I added more line breaks in my transcription. Interesting that you put "reigns" instead of "rains" (what I had). But in this context, it definitely makes sense.

I usually don't post insight on how I find these songs (since I never think anyone's interested) but back in 2014, I stumbled across their song "Magnetic North Pole", which was a hit on college radio stations in 1995 and is a great song. A little while after that I realized they had a VEVO channel but it wasn't for that song. I just recently came back to it and figured I should give this one a try too, so they have lyrics for more than one song online.

But anyway. Here's the next song, from Eddie Rabbitt, one of the only country artists I enjoy and one of the first artist pages I worked on on LSI. I don't own the album this is on (I own some albums of his on vinyl and one on CD, and only one doesn't have a lyrics sheet), but I did some digging and can't find an image of the lyrics booklet on eBay/Discogs/etc. I also PMed two sellers of the album on eBay asking if the album had a lyrics sheet and it doesn't. So I'm trying it here.

Eddie Rabbitt - "Go to Sleep Big Bertha"

This is one of his more overtly country songs - both lyrically and musically. His lyrics usually aren't like this, but what I can make out of it is a bit risqué (yet humorous) for him. There's really only two lines I'm unsure of. And for the sake of post length, you guys don't have to list the repeated choruses at the end if you don't want to. I don't mind either way, but it's the verses I'm focusing on.

Oh, well I guess there was a miscommunication - I just got a message from an eBay seller of the vinyl saying it does come with a lyrics sheet. So I don't think I'll need help with this one after all. I just bought the vinyl on Amazon since I can't find any images of the lyrics booklet at all (normally some eBay listings will post clear images of the lyrics booklet, which I save and use for the future, but not in this case). So, I'll hope for the best!

I will Eddie Rabbitt's lyric sheets have been pretty complete in the past, though (not like the Fixx lyrics booklets). But yeah, we'll see. I'll probably transcribe what doesn't have lyrics online from the rest of that album, as well.
