*Introductory theme tune*

Happy almost Christmas! (That's the closest we have to something related - Rudolph's red nose...a white, dead Rudolph.) Round #1 can be my Christmas present to our American players.

Rules of the quiz:
- One answer per person (per round)
- Always give the answer you think the fewest amount of people would know
- If two people give the same answer in a short space of time, the first person's answer will be accepted (but the second can answer again)
- When applicable, a player may pick the same subject as another contestant and provide a different answer if they believe the other to be incorrect
- If you play the first round, please check back in case you make it through to Round #2
- Resist cheating (i.e. searching online for answers)

And of course, respect your fellow contestants and have fun!

Round #1 will be posted shortly and will remain open until Monday (or, when applicable, until each answer is taken) to give everyone a chance of replying.

For the record, an explanation isn't needed. But I suppose Brownie Points could be given for them.

Thought we were going to have a draw, but nope.

Jeremy: X 100 (TOPEKA, KANSAS)
Lisa: 23 (SEATTLE, WASHINGTON)
Practice: 16 (NEW ORLEANS)
Sierra: 6 (HONOLULU, HAWAII)

Bruna: 1 (BALTIMORE, MARYLAND)
Jeff: 1 (BOISE, IDAHO)
Joe: 1 (PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND)
Sarah: 1 (MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN)

Carl: 0 POINTLESS!! (MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE)
Jen: 0 POINTLESS!! (SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA)
Kaleb: 0 POINTLESS!! (BILLINGS, MONTANA)

Sorry, Jeremy, apparently Wichita is the largest city by population in Kansas. A particular big commiserations to Sierra; 6 being a great score in a very low-scoring round. But congratulations to those who made it through to Round #2, and particularly well done to the three who found pointless answers!

ROUND TWO

Jeremy's assured me you should be OK with these. So, our category for Round #2 is...

JOULE
YARD
CELSIUS
MOHS
TROY OUNCE
BEAUFORT SCALE
DECIBEL
CURIE
AMPERE
KNOT

We've had

sorry gang....been working too much...lol here's mine...and woohooo, made it to round two.
troy ounce is used for measuring precious metals. learned that a long time ago.....esp for GOLD....lol had to do a report on Fort Knox one year.

I'm going to say curie is a measurement of radioactivity? All the other ones I know are going to be high scorers, so I'll go with that.

mercalli for earthquake intensity. everyone just remembers richter

i remember the 1755 earthquake in lisbon was classified as the 2nd most disastrous type in the mercalli scale. it basically wrecked shit up, just a few buildings were left standing. a couple minutes after this massive earthquake, a tsunami hit the city and the buildings that didn't fall, were now underwater. everything else caught on fire and there was no one to put it out since the survivors ran away. fire lasted like 5 days, there were landslides, it was truly a fascinating mess.

here's a drawing from back then for those who are interested.

Beaufort scale, measures wind speed on the ocean.

Thank you Deadliest Catch and the shitty Alaskan weather.

Someone looks good for her age.

Awesome drawing. You know, in a tragic way. :p

ROUND #2 RESULTS

Now she's just being greedy.

Joe: 44 (BEAUFORT SCALE – WIND)
Sarah: 38 (AMPERE – ELECTRICITY)
Jen: 28 (JOULE – ENERGY)
Carl: 31 (TROY OUNCE – WEIGHT)
Kaleb: 18 (CURIE – RADIATION)

Jeff: 7 (MOHS – MINERAL HARDNESS)
Bruna: 2 (MERCALLI – EARTHQUAKE INTENSITY)

Sorry, Joe, I don't know why that scored so much. Good answers there - you all avoided the really big scorers. Commiserations Joe, Sarah, Jen, Carl, and Kaleb (good educated guess!)...

Congratulations Jeff and B, the Head-to-Head it is!

In case anyone wonders, I was a little confused by the troy ounce one - normally I wouldn't consider measuring and weight to be the same, but since it didn't matter to who made it through, I figured Carl was likely right and I was lacking in measurement terminology knowledge. :p

That was a good scientific question they asked and not only did everyone here do so well guessing these hard items, but Congratulations to Jeff and Bruna considering how high scoring everything else was. That 100 people in the Studio Audience at Pointless were really good in their knowledge too makes it so difficult to find a Pointless one among those!

Plus, I know just about everything when it comes to minerals and rocks. One of my favourite units. Other than astronomy of course.

HEAD-TO-HEAD, PART 1

Here comes your first question in this best-of-three round, and it concerns...

THREE-LETTER ANIMALS

I'm going to show you five pictures of animals commonly known by a three-letter name. Can you identify the most obscure of these animals? Good luck!

A
B
C
D
E (Awww)

A is a "Kea" and this is the moist obscure of all of the pictures/animals.

"B" is a Elk, then "C" is a Fox; then "D" is a Yak
