i'm actually really liking this.

i've always liked the game itself, but never had a reason to follow it regularly. this might be it.

i get at least one game a week on my sports channel. i'll make sure to dvr it because it's usually at 1 am, so i'll be watching it the next night

my excellent kicker, matt prater, just caught a DUI

i'm not dropping him as he is only missing 4 games, but i need another kicker. i only had the one.

My advice would probably be to drop your back-up QB and pick up another kicker. Your QB doesn't have their bye week until week 12, so (injury or poor playing aside) you won't need a back-up for 12 weeks.
You can always drop the second kicker once Prater is back and get a second QB then. (Plus Prater has a week 4 bye, so once he's back from suspension, he's back for the whole season)

This is the bit I don't get. Our teams are full up, so how do we get someone else without dropping a player?

You don't.

If you want to pick up someone else you have to drop one of your current players.

Haha, right. And then maybe we can pick up the one we dropped as long as no one else has taken them? I think Joe told me that.

Yeah, sometimes it works out. You drop a player for their bye-week and then just pick them back up the week after, assuming no one notices. Last year quite a few people did that with their kicker.
