The song I need help with is "Sitting on a Star" by Strawberry Alarm Clock - I've been slowly working on their lyrics for the past few months, and this is one of several so far that has stumped me. I can understand the majority of the lyrics being sung, but the second line I can't understand for the life of me:

Glittering silver of solitude
In the darkest risk/whisk of ????

It sounds like a nonsense word, something like "Luperpull" or "Luperkull". If anyone has any idea what the word or phrase could be, that would be greatly appreciated. (I may post more songs by this band in the future that I need help with, but I'm starting little right now)

Ah yes, it did sound like another event, I just wasn't familiar with Watkins Glen so I couldn't hear that myself. Good to know, thanks! Hopefully you can help some more tomorrow.

Oh, and also, I think the previous line is "He was one with them at Woodstock". Again, makes sense considering he's been to Woodstock and Watkins Glen.

Possibly, I'll have to listen again.

I didn't know of it, either; I Googled a couple of similar-sounding words until that one came up in the suggestions. You're welcome.

Yeah, I'm sorry, I have no better suggestions. It almost sounds like, "When the cars are fueled with vinny" and "With the song stuck in the wind", neither of which make much sense. I'd say it's a name for the other part, "And XXXX wishes he was home", but I can't make it out.

No worries! That was a tough one. I'm tempted to post the other song I mentioned that didn't have lyrics from this album, but man, it's a doozy... I dunno. I'll hold that off for now, and instead post a newer song - "The End" by Fitz and the Tantrums. For some reason, the last few songs on this album don't have lyrics online, which is weird considering they're a pretty popular band these days. Wonder if the CD has a lyrics booklet.

Something's gotta get through
If you wanna stay you
Need to find a place for me
You always sayin' we're through
Then turn around and say you
Can't see no one else but me

???? we are
I've been here before
It's a long way down this cold dead end, though
Stretch our wings out
??? way before (we've come way before?)
Strike these lonely days before they ???

All of our promises
The truth we know we can say
All of our promises
The reckless games that we play

If I were to treat her
Like them other sneaker
Surely I would rule as king
But no matter how I treat her
She always gonna linger
On all the other boys but me

???? we are
I've been here before
It's a long way down this cold dead end, though
Stretch our wings out
??? way before (we've come way before?)
Strike these lonely days before they ???

All of our promises
The truth we know we can say
All of our promises
The reckless games that we play

All of our promises
The truth we know we can say
All of our promises
The reckless games that we play

There's nowhere to go
Just hanging 'round when
Everything we do keeps crashing down
Sings a song, these songs gone out of style
We're twisting our words when we know we have to

All of our promises
The truth we know we can say
All of our promises
The reckless games that we play

All of our promises
The truth we know we can say
All of our promises
The reckless games that we play

It's another tough one, so I can understand if you can't help on this one much.

I'm not certain, but they're what I keep hearing. I don't know about that last one.

Are you sure it's "The truth we know we can say" and not "can't"? I'm also not sure it's "these songs gone out of style", but I don't know what else it might be (I don't hear "these" at all - something like "with", but that doesn't make sense).

Ditto for "though" - I agree it doesn't sound right, but I don't have another suggestion. Sorry.

It could be "can't", actually - it's not very enunciated, but listening to that part with that in mind, it does sound probable. Anyways, thanks for trying, at least. It doesn't help that the band uses a lot of effects on their vocals, and the instrumentation often drowns out the vocals at points.

Hoo boy, alrighty...be prepared for a lot of question marks, though. Here it is, "Sky High" by Atlanta Rhythm Section.

Music is a high to me
Be a symphony or a three-chord rocker
I love music, any kind of music
It all makes me fly

Sky high
Sky high
Sky high
Hey, let's fly
Sky high
Sky high
Away

Only day ??????
Story ????
, I gotta keep on shining
'Til I die, got to keep on shining
I want to blow you away

Sky high
Sky high
Sky high
Hey, let's fly
Sky high
Ooh, my, my, yeah

???? draggin', you're fallin' apart
Just put some song in your heart
I'm going

Pretend you're standin' on the stage
You start to play, and the crowd goes crazy
You are a ???, listen to me feel it
You could blow you away

Sky high
Sky high
Sky high
Hey, let's fly
Sky high
Sky high
Ooh, my, my, oh

Sky high
Sky high
Ooh, my, my
Hey, let's fly
Sky high
Ooh, my, my, now, give it to me

Don't let the song length scare you - it's a 5-minute song, but there's lots of instrumental interludes, and the vocals stop about halfway in, anyways.

First part (of my suggestions) I think is right...the rest, not really. I hear the "You are a something", and then possibly, "I listen to the something"...but maybe not (and I don't know what the something is).

I hear "drag and you're fallin' apart" - almost "I lights a drag", but that doesn't make sense (you take a drag of a lit cigarette, but the wording would be different), or "The lights are drag"...but not.

Well, I figured that line out, it's "When life's a drag and you're fallin' apart". However, the "you are the feeling, I listen to the feeling" is now the only roadblock to this. Hmm...I'm stumped, and I do agree, that's what I thought he was saying at first. Plus, the line after that doesn't sound right either ("you could blow you away").

Alright, I'm a-returnin' to post another song. This song is by another obscure '60s garage band named The Nova Local. All of the song is pretty easy to understand, except for one line. I'll post all of what I have transcribed anyways and I'll hope that Joeyy (or someone else) can solve the one line.

Soon they'll be glad
Soon they'll be sad
But not soon enough
The going is tough

Jane ran away
Tom came to play
Hoping to find
A way to lose time

The next flight's a fare
There's a lot you can see
But don't look my way, 'cause I won't pay, hey
When I hear them say, hey

Five dollars a ticket (Five dollars a tick-)
Five dollars a ticket (Five dollars a tick-)
Five dollars a ticket (Five dollars a-)

Pay the fare, Jane
Time to board the plane
Try to ???? (men stop fly/???? the flight)
Reach your star tonight

Jane ran away
Tom came to play
Hoping to find
A way to lose time

The next flight's a fare
There's a lot you can see

But don't look my way, 'cause I won't pay, hey
When I hear them say, hey

Five dollars a ticket (Five dollars a tick-)
Five dollars a ticket (Five dollars a tick-)
Five dollars a ticket (Five dollars a-)

Okay, this next song falls under a genre that's always been a constant struggle for lyric-transcribers like myself - disco. The problem I have transcribing disco is either a) there's excessive ad-libs, sometimes to the point where they're incomprehensible or b) there's like 2 or 3 vocal parts going on simultaneously, sometimes saying different lines completely. And boy, this song doesn't fail to match those two characteristics. Nonetheless, I gave it a try: "You Touch My Hot Line" by The Trammps.

I left out some backing vocals that were ad-libbing during the last two choruses, but if you want to try and decipher them that works. I can always submit the lyrics without that part though, since the main words being sung are still here.

I was a cold, cold man
Well, then you came along and made me understand
Oh, I had ???? (thrill?)
I'd look ????
You took me out on the town
And you made it, oh, you made it work out right

Oh, you touch me (Touch me)
Oh, you touch me, oh no

You touch my hot line when you dance so fine
You touch my hot line 'cause you really got down
You touch my hot line 'cause you dance so fine
You touch my hot line, ??? (let go/let low?), oh

Your warm and tender body in my arm
Well, yeah, the thrill and the chills of your charms, well
Oh, you spark the flame
That made this iceberg ??? (fell?)
You warm my body
Oh, you showed me, oh, you girl, you're something else

Oh, you touch me (Touch me)
Oh, you touch me, oh no
You touch my hot line when you dance so fine
You touch my hot line when you really got down
You touch my hot line 'cause you're mine, all mine
You touch my hot line, ??? (let go/let low?)
You touch my hot line

Oh, I had ???? (thrill?)
I'd look ????
You took me out on the town
And you showed me, oh, you really got down

Oh, you touch me (Touch me)
Oh, you touch me, oh no
You touch my hot line when you really got down
You touch my hot line 'cause you're mine, all mine
You touch my hot line 'cause you dance so fine
You touch my hot line, 'cause you're mine all mine
??? (let go/let low?), oh

You touch my hot line when you really got down
You touch my hot line 'cause you're mine, all mine
You touch my hot line 'cause you dance so fine
You touch my hot line, 'cause you're mine, all mine (Ow, ow, ow)
You touch my hot line

Ooh, well, get on down (Hey, baby, girl, you dig)
Shake it (Baby baby, baby baby, baby)
Love the way you move (Baby baby, baby baby, baby)
Love the way you groove (Baby baby, baby baby, baby)
You dance so fine (Baby)
You're mine, all mine (Said you're mine, all mine)
Your warm, tender body (Tender body)
Turns me on, yes, it does
Turnin' me upside down

You touch my hot line when you really got down
You touch my hot line 'cause you're mine, all mine
You touch my hot line 'cause you dance so fine
You touch my hot line, 'cause you're mine, all mine

You touch my hot line when you really got down
You touch my hot line 'cause you're mine, all mine
You touch my hot line 'cause you dance so fine
You touch my hot line

------
I feel like the missing part next to "You spark the flame that made this iceberg...." should be "melt", since that's an obvious choice, but I distinctly here an "f" sound there.

I had...the will?

I really don't know, Nicolas, I'm sorry. I hear the 'f' in the word after "iceberg", too. I guess it could be a strange way of describing it melting? :S

One thing I do think is that you should probably change it to "hotline", one word, if that's what's in the title. It is a word.

It is two words in the title, though, per the back of the LP.

Don't feel bad for having trouble with this one. Like I said, transcribing disco songs is very difficult. I'll post some songs that should be hopefully easier throughout this week.

Heh, so today I just discovered that the album that contains the song I was going to post today ("Drop It" by Rupert Holmes) apparently has a lyrics booklet per this eBay image. So I just placed a bid on the LP. The auction ends tonight, so I'll hope I win it.

Nonetheless, I'll hopefully get the other songs I have planned up this week.
