The term "tongue tied" actually stems from the medical condition in which the frenulum is too short to allow proper movement of the tongue. Tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) is a condition with unusually short, thick or tight band of tissue (lingual frenulum) tethers the bottom of the tongue's tip to the floor of the mouth.

Androgen insensitivity syndrome is a genetic disorder in which the XY fetus is unresponsive (insensitive) to androgens. Androgens are male hormones, such as testosterone. A baby with androgen insensitivity syndrome is born externally like a normal girl. However, internally they have a short blind-pouch vagina, and no ovaries, fallopian tubes or womb (uterus).
