No one I'm good friends with has ever lived near me & people tend to not come to Michigan on vacation often. My one friend wanted to meet but he was so pretty & it made me super shy & nervous.

So I was just about the post this question and I'm glad I searched for it first.
So here are some of my meetups:

Two pen pals. One from Czech Republic and one from Michigan. Met them both in public places as a precaution (was over 18 when met both of them). Met my Michigan friend about three times, and my Czech friend is pretty cool and said we could hang if I ever come to her country.

Multiple keypals from Roxette forum/group when I went to many of the concerts. They let me stay with them! Kind of just had faith it wasn't any crazy killers. It all worked out for the best, though. I have to say that most of us were pretty cool about it. It was nice to meet some of the people after years of interacting with them online.

I think if you're under eighteen I wouldn't recommend it at all as your folks are probably going to go crazy or wonder what happened.

I met someone on one of my California vacations after seeing someone online who was a friend's coworker. Still talk with her every week.
