I think that England's National Anthem is actually God Save The Queen. Land of Hope and Glory is used where other British countries are also involved as far as I know.

The Norwegian one is about..how we love Norway, and it's nature and how it has survived through the ages..

Translated, the first two verses are like this:
Yes, we love this country
Which looms up
Rocky and weathered, above the sea
With its thousand homes
Love it, love it and think
About our mothers and fathers
And the sagas that send
Dreams to our earth
And the sagas that send
Dreams to our earth

This country was saved by Harald
With his great effort
This country was protected by Håkon
Whilst Øyvind sung
Olav painted the country
With a cross of his blood
From it's high Sverre spoke
Against Rome
From it's high Sverre spoke
Against Rome

Yeah, it sounds stupid in English O.o

Star Spangled Banner, that be ours. And I can sing it in six different keys.

What's really pathetic is that I know my state anthem as well...at least, I know the first verse and chorus.

no, god save the queen is definately only the British national anthem, not the English one.

I was under the impression England's was "Jerusalem". But I might be wrong. You know, William Blake's poetry, set to music composed by Elgar. Its a gr8 patriotic tune.

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

*Interesting facts. Oh Canada was not offically made Canada's national anthem until July 1st, 1980- 100 years after it was first sung (june 24th, 1880). It was composed by Calixa Lavallée, who was Canada's "national musician"(he was asked to compose the msuci to go along with a poem that had been written by Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier. in order to be preformed for St. Jean-Baptiste day) The offical version contains changes made in 1968.
The original version was:
O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love thou dost in us command.
We see thee rising fair, dear land,
The True North, strong and free;
And stand on guard, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.

O Canada! O Canada!
O Canada! We stand on guard for thee.
O Canada! We stand on guard for thee.
O Canada! Where pines and maples grow.
Great prairies spread and lordly rivers flow.
How dear to us thy broad domain,
From East to Western Sea,
Thou land of hope for all who toil!
Thou True North, strong and free!
O Canada! O Canada! etc.
O Canada! Beneath thy shining skies
May stalwart sons and gentle maidens rise,
To keep thee steadfast through the years
From East to Western Sea,
Our own beloved native land!
Our True North, strong and free!
O Canada! O Canada! etc.
Ruler supreme, who hearest humble prayer,
Hold our dominion within thy loving care;
Help us to find, O God, in thee
A lasting, rich reward,
As waiting for the Better Day,
We ever stand on guard.
O Canada! O Canada! etc.

The french version of the offical anthem is:
O Canada! Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.

I'm including it b/c french is the national language alongside english and therefor should be included.

Sorry for the long post, just find this interesting!!

Fratelli d'Italia,

Stringiamoci a corte,
siam pronti alla morte,
siam pronti alla morte,
l'Italia chiamò!

Stringiamoci a corte,
siam pronti alla morte,
siam pronti alla morte,
l'Italia chiamò! Sì!

Composed in 1847, this became the national anthem of Italy in 1946, with the birth of the Republic

Australians all let us rejoice
For we are young and free
We've golden soil and wealth for toil
Our home is girt by sea
Our land abounds in nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare
In history's page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair
In joyful strains then let us sing
Advance Australia Fair

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross
We'll toil with hearts and hands
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands
For those who've come across the seas
We've boundless plains to share
With courage let us all combine
To Advance Australia Fair
In joyful strains then let us sing
Advance Australia Fair

Heróis do mar, nobre Povo,
Nação valente, imortal
Levantai hoje de novo
O esplendor de Portugal!
Entre as brumas da memória,
Ó Pátria, sente-se a voz
Dos teus egrégios avós,
Que há-de guiar-te à vitória!

Às armas, às armas!
Sobre a terra, sobre o mar,
Às armas, às armas!
Pela Pátria lutar
Contra os canhões marchar, marchar!

"The portuguese national anthem is called "A Portuguesa" ("The Portuguese"). It was composed in 1891 when our country was going through difficult times and its pride and honour needed an incentive - that incentive was this song adopted by the revolutionaries. It became an anthem even when it was not, yet. Due to its popularity among the people and the actual meaning of the song and lyrics "A Portuguesa" was chosen, after the implementation of the Republic, in 1910 as the official portuguese national anthem. The national anthem represents the portuguese nation by remembering our ancestors and inciting the portuguese of our days to continue their work in making our country greater. It is a symbol of our country, of its culture and history. "A Portuguesa" was composed by Alfredo Keil and the lyrics were written by Henrique Lopes de Mendonça."

The English one is definatelty Land of Hope and Glory? When did this happen? Does the monachy know?

No, God Save The Queen is the National Anthem of England and Great Britain. Scotland and Wales have their own aswell, but we poor Englanders dont. As moving as GSTQ is when sung with x-thousand others at a football stadium, I think we need our 'own' too.

Perhaps keep GSTQ for the cross of St.George and give the Union Jack Rule Britannia?

There is only one real National Anthem for the UK and that's 'God Save the Queen'. Not sure about Wales but in Scotland there isn't a 'proper' anthem, just songs that the people have adopted as a national anthem. Also in a nation vote they found out that people would rather have Auld Lang Sign(can't remember how to spell >.
On another note, why do we want our national anthem about the Queen? And how we must wish for her safety? Yes she's probably a lovely old biddy but the majority don't give a toss about the Royal Family, they're more of a tourist attraction really

Our national anthem is about a non-specific deity saving a pompous, titled monarch.

Hurrah for England!
