My Australian friends...

The way 'Straians' pronounce their o's - it always makes me laugh!

Hugs 'maightes'(read: mates),

umm, incessenantly friendly all the bloody time (which makes me feel very reserved n mean n british) and guys with long bleached blond hair worn in a ponytail who wear sandals all the time, even in the middle of winter. It also seems that a;; australians are teachers - there are thousands of them over here filling up the schools!!!!

thanks guys. i need this for my english class.

our o's? hmm. remember though, that Australia is a big immigration country and there's many accents here now. The accent you mean is probably steve erwin / muriels wedding. Thats mostly QLD accent. Australians change from each state. Im from VIC and there's heaps of italians here so we kinda have a lil italian twist in it.

I think of Australians in the sense that they are in the same boat as us (Canadians), in one respect.

Ive had Americans ask me if I live in an igloo, if my country has four seasons, if we have steak (dont even ask me what their logic was on that one), and whether or not the Queen is our leader.

I mean, lets be honest, there is such thing as not having enough information, and just being ignorant. That falls into the latter.

Peace!

I think of about 20 million people on the same continent as me! Australia is definately a multicultural place, walk down a street in Sydney and you'll know what I'm talking about. It's something like 40% of Australians weren't born here or their parents weren't or something like that! (Yr10 geography coming back to me). I also think of this bloody drought....... and the odd frog which just crawled up the window in front of me...... anyway, yes the drought, we're not looking at any decent rain until about March, which means lots of bushfires too. I'll be old enough to join the Rural Fire Service this year and I'm definately going to do it, I can't stand to see what happens to people affected by bushfires!

Well if it's for your english class I can tell you mose of the stereotypes out there.

1. Lifeguards... most ppl think all of yaz can swim. *lol*
2. You these amazing ppl at catching snakes and such.
3. You can ride kangaroos.
4. All of you have boomarangs. (sp?)
5. You all are blonde.
6. Everyone owns a truck... or as you call em ute's or something like that. *lol*
7. There is always a billabong somewhere near by.
8. You like shrimp.
9. Dingoes are everywhere and steal your children. *haha*
10. You end every sentence with "mate". (Don't worry, us canadians know how ya feel with that one eh?)

Well i hope that helped your english project out. Oh and by the way, I don't believe any of em, I'm just stating what a lot of people think when they hear "Aussie".

Later Taterz!

What d'you northern people think of Londoners? - I always get my accent made fun of up north and also there are a lot of negative vibes going round about anyone from south of watford... !

Hoffy are there only 20 million people in Australia?! There are 68 million in the UK and we're tiny compared to you?! And did you know that there are five million more people in London than there are in New Zealand? I really think you could shove a few more people into that continent!

yeah, I haven't had a look at the latest census, but I think it's estimated at about 20 million, maybe 19, I'm not sure. But there's other things too, like 70% of Australians live on the coast (which makes me part of the other 30%!). They think it's because it's more harsh inland, and because it's more like a european climate on the coast, and this appeals to our heritage. Plus there's not too many resources left to support a larger population. Australia's optimum population is set at around 26 million, so we're well on our way I guess! This drought won't do any good for inland communities either, it was 37 degrees celsius (99 fahrenheit) here today, and we got a hot gusty wind, so there goes all the farmer's topsoil............. It looks like hitting the low to mid 40's in summer they reckon, that's gonna be baaaaaaaaaddddd.

Hehe Canada is bigger than Australia and The USA. Yet we have fewer peeps. Ah well. And 37 Celcius is hot. I think the hottest it got this summer in Canada where I live was 35 Celcius. *Bleh* And unfortunatley Canada has lots of humidity. Where I am it does anyway. Well winter is almost here though. It's snowed only once here really so far. It's said we're supposed to have a mild winter where I am. I hope not. I love snow.
