Ok, the Dutchies are representing on this site as well, so there must be a thread where you can learn Dutch, ok uhm first we'll start with saying Hello and bye

Hello = Hallo (the A is pronounced as the A in what, or the A in Arno )

Bye = Dag or Doei (the OE part is pronounced as the O in who and the I part is like the EE in feed, so you'd get Doee, but you gotta say it fast so you dont really say the I),
just say doei, since like noone can pronounce the G, as we do.

Ok uhm, well if you want to know anything, just ask

The Netherlands are a kingdom and Holland is a province of the kingdom, i think you can compare Holland to England or Wales in GreatBritain... i'm not from the Netherlands (but was born there) , so correct me if it's wrong

I'm going to correct you..( I think)
Holland is not a province. We DO have 2 provinces that are called 'north Holland' and 'South Holland' .. But when you say Holland, you're talking about the whole country, which is also called The Netherlands.
You could compare it to the fact that you can call England The United Kingdom..
So.. Holland is The Netherlands.. And the other way around.

you're a bit wrong, cos the netherlands is a country and england is a country not a province. Holland is a province of the netherlands, but the netherlands is known as holland, because of it's history at sea. you see the people from holland, were known all around the world, you know the flying dutchmen, etc. but the netherlands is really small, so when asked where they came from they said holland, cos the people knew holland.

so if you read what I said, you know that holland isn't the same as the netherlands, and I am not from holland, but from overijssel (another province) but sometimes I do say I'm from holland, because sometimes people only know holland

Because Holland is "old-fashioned"
It has to do with the history of The Netherlands..

We have rivers going trough our country, that split it in 2 sides. Above the rivers people tend to call The Netherlands Holland, under, they mostly call it The Netherlands.
(I don't know this for sure thoug, I live under the rivers so I only know that for sure.. )

note: The Netherlands has the province Zeeland, wich means Sealand, and that's how New Sealand got his/her name.

also: New York was first called New Amsterdam, but the Dutch gave it (well they were kinda forced) away and exchanged it for Suriname.
so if that haddend happend the world would speak dutch instead of english :p
