| I've been wanting the tag-up offsides to come back since the day they were taken out.
I don't have much idea how the fatter blue lines will fare, all I know is that they look absurd.
I'm glad they're leaving the nets as they are. I think there's other changes that will have a greater impact.
Actually, I'm not in favour of any of the ice changes. Fatter blue lines, removing the red-line, pushing the nets back, etc...I think we should find one ice surface and stick with it and just alter the game rules to suit it. I'm tired of seeing a different rink each time they want to have some fun with their little administrative powers over an ancient game. | 0 @ 12-02-2004 05:38 fishmunky | 20,424 posts
| how about the ridiculous rule of penalizing goalies that leave the crease to play the puck? | 0 @ 12-02-2004 05:44 Dekar | 36,121 posts
| That's dumb. Let the goalies handle the puck if they want, but I'd like to see the league stop protecting them by penalising anyone who touches them. Let the goalies come out if they want, but make it at their own risk. That would moderate their wandering, I think.
Also, I like the decreasing pad size. Something Colin Campbell said today I agree with totally.
"Seeing a goalie handling the puck, that's pretty exciting," Campbell, the league's director of operations, responded sarcastically. "I thought it was pretty exciting seeing Mike Gartner and Guy Lafleur going down the wing and scoring. Now we have to go down and shove it through the side of their pads or jam it in at the side of the net."
I tire of all the shoving and pushing and jamming and hacking and slow, boring, gameplay. I don't even like seeing scrums along the boards where they trap the puck for up to 10 seconds at a time. God I'd like to hit them so hard... | 0 @ 12-02-2004 05:55 fishmunky | 20,424 posts
| i agree....equipment is to big...and goalies should leave at their own risk...i like seeing goalies in on the play....however i agree...tying the puck up on the boards is garbage...leads to frustration...have you heard what st.patick has said about the goalies these days? | 0 @ 12-02-2004 05:58 Dekar | 36,121 posts
| I heard his commentary during the meeting, but I forget exactly what he said.
Oh, and my fingers are crossed for having one ref again. | 0 @ 12-02-2004 06:05 fishmunky | 20,424 posts
| naw one ref system wasnt even discussed unfortunately...id rather have one competent ref then 2 idiots (look at all the missed high sticks)...roy was talking about increasing net size and decreasing pad size...however a couple of goalies lashed out about that...including his former back up (aebicher i believe...i cant spell his name) | 0 @ 12-02-2004 06:17 Dekar | 36,121 posts
| Yeah, I just went to refresh my memory on NHL.com...
Roy mentioned having smaller posts. I wouldn't go for that. I'm delighted to hear the loud ING* when players strike it.
WARNING! Some stereotypes are poked fun at in the following.
And Roy talked about having fewer teams in the NHL. As much as there's some good teams among these, I think the league can live without Florida (Do they really care about hockey when there should be concern about keeping the arena from being thrown into the ocean by a "light breeze"?), Atlanta (Heehaw! Let's rope us some puckies!), Nashville (How to incorporate hockey and country music together? You got me.), Minnesota (Who really even knows where this state is?), Columbus (Ohio? Must we give a team to every damned state? Next thing you know, we'll have the Puerto Rico Tacos!), Phoenix (Really now, who plays hockey in the desert!?), Buffalo (Yes, I know this is not a new team, but come on, there's three teams in NY state. Too much.), and San Jose/Anaheim (California can fake more interest in something that Pavarotti pretending he's enjoying his stay at the Olive Garden, but it's wasted effort on two teams. Take one out.). | 0 @ 12-02-2004 06:32 fishmunky | 20,424 posts
| ya but roy mentioned cutting it down to like 16 teams or something....that means:
everyone makes the playoffs or
the play offs are cut short...i dunno about you but that puts a lot of guys in this league out of work | 0 @ 13-02-2004 06:26 fishmunky | 20,424 posts

| i dont usually get to watch games; i dont have the time. i usually check how the leafs and the avs are doing in the paper, every so often; but i am rooting for em all the way. and i have money on the avs, too. and those new rules, which i read about in the paper (heh). i oppose most of them. | 0 @ 14-02-2004 02:21 CanuckPsyche | 294 posts

| as i live and go to school in toronto...yeah, yeah they would be lol | 0 @ 14-02-2004 06:39 Stanley | 13,928 posts
| i think they should leave the game the way it is... the only reason they want to increase scoring is because it will fill the stands.. if they want to fill the stands they should lower ticket prices. | 0 @ 14-02-2004 07:09 B_0202 | 1,966 posts
