| Pittsburg is about 2 years out of a playoff spot
and to count Carolina out is foolish...slow start but they're buiilding momentum
look for Toronto to bounce back strong with the return of Kubina
Phillies out of a spot
Florida only makes it through is Auld is hot...otherwise their goaltending is too aenimic to withstand some of the hotter shooting east teams (buffalo, ottawa, atlanta, carolina and suprisingly enough this year toronto)
Shanahan to New York was the best off season aquisition in world history
Buffalo looks amazing...but other than the las t 2 games where they've destroyed some really sub par defense and goaltending all of their games have been close...so don't get too riled up
Montreal is going to finish much better than anyone expects them to
Colorado lacks the depth to do much this year...Hejduk just isn't Forsberg and their defense hasn't been the same since Foote left
Tampa misses the playoffs again and its Torterella's ass
Leafs miss the playoffs again and its JFJ's ass
Look for Esche to be shipped out of phillie in the near future, ditto for Tellvquist in Toronto | 0 @ 19-10-2006 01:23 mikey_boy | 20,467 posts
| not just Foote man. Blake gone too now was the final nail in the coffin. | 0 @ 19-10-2006 01:24 mikey_boy | 20,467 posts
| and stupid Colorado thinking Jordan Leopold to make up for what they lose on D was a stupid idea too. not to mention he's friggen injured. | 0 @ 19-10-2006 01:28 fishmunky | 20,320 posts
| both the avs and the leafs are playing like garbage right now
im so glad i have Malkin in my hockey pool lol | 0 @ 19-10-2006 02:35 mikey_boy | 20,467 posts
| i got Malkin on my fantasy team. along with Crosby. go me. goal in his first game. telling you, those 2 are going to be force. | 0 @ 19-10-2006 02:47 mikey_boy | 20,467 posts

| Some bold predictions...about time this thread has been revived!
Ottawa must be kicking themselves with letting Havlat go. Either way I still dont like him. I think he is a dirty player. Good for Chicago...I guess.
Buffalo is tearing it up so far this year. This team is for real. They are a really fast team filled with young players and 2 goalies that are both good enough to be a #1 goalie. They will win the Northeast Division this year.
Colorado will not make the playoffs. What has happened to Theodore? I dont know but as long as he plays for Colorado, they wont make the playoffs.
Philadelphia has definitely softened up the past couple of years. Getting destroyed by Buffalo 9-1. I watched that game and they were just terrible. Esche I think has the potential to be a good player but with the team he has in front of him, hes not going to help the Flyers much. I see them failing to make the playoffs in the final couple of weeks of the season.
Martin Gerber is not as good as everyone thinks he is. Ottawa will make the playoffs but Gerber cant carry this team on his back. We know he cant be relied on when needed. See last years playoffs. Look for a first round exit for them once again.
Indeed it was a stupid idea for Detroit to get rid of Legace and look who they bring in...Hasek of all people. Anyone want to bet on how long it takes until he reinjures the groin? Detroit will still make the playoffs though, thanks to their star players, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, as Anthony said.
St. Louis will still miss the playoffs even after picking up Legace.
Minnesota is up to a great start. They are like the Buffalo Sabres in the West. They are fast and they have some key guys who can easily stick 30-35 goals in the net in Ralston, Gaborik and Demitra.
Vancouver I think will make the playoffs but not after a little bit of luck.
Florida will not make the playoffs with Auld or Belfour in goal. They have a decent team up front but Auld is only a backup and Belfour is getting old, and has had a recent string of back injuries that will once again come in effect later on this season.
Pittsburgh will not make the playoffs. Fleury is not ready to carry this team. Malkin will not have the year everyone expects him to. Crosby will be the teams best player once again but wont reach his point total from last season.
Boston improved up front quite a bit but in net is where they have problems. Toivenen (sp?) and Thomas? Both probably good enough to be a backup but as a starter? Not a chance. They will probably split the games throughout the year but I dont see them making the playoffs just based on goaltending.
You may think I am biased because I am a Leaf fan but I do predict them to make the playoffs this year. I know they dont have any top notch goal scorers but they have a couple of guys who are capable of scoring at least 20 goals in Tucker, Sundin (obviously), Steen, and even Ponikarovsky. I dont expect them to make it any higher then 7th this year.

| Detroit takes it. if not them, then a west team. Buffalo has a fighting chance with there scoring power but i think Miller will let them down if they go to the finals. | 0 @ 09-04-2007 06:44 fishmunky | 20,320 posts

| what? even if you hate the team (my team ) you cant deny that hasek is a monster in the goal.
i have to admit that i dont expect detroit to go far in the postseason. | 0 @ 08-04-2008 03:39 IsThisMyFate | 362 posts
| I still don't think Pittsburgh is a playoff team yet. I can't picture them going far. Their first series is vs. Ottawa... another team that chokes in the playoffs. That'll be a good series. I WANT the Pengies to win, but I think Ottawa will take it. When Ottawa's top line clicks (if alfreddson is healthy), they are unstoppable. I suppose Ottawa will also need a decent goaltender, inorder to stop Hossa, Malkin and Sid the Kid.
I am rooting for San Joe Thornton (San Jose) to win the Western Conference.
I care about who doesn't win the cup more than who does win the cup, since the Leafs are out. I don't want to see Detroit or Ottawa win the cup. | 0 @ 08-04-2008 03:51 jsimms52 | 24,110 posts
| I don't think Fleury is that good either but he beats the tandem of Gerber/Emery. Maybe this is his year? He's got a good record because the offense is just that damn good. That top line last year in the Cup Finals was invisible. They did nothing, hence why they lost. I agree, if they reach their top form then they are unbeatable but I just don't see them going past first round. I think Pittsburgh has this one this time....hopefully. I guess we'll wait and see how well Malkin/Crosby/Hossa do in the clutch.
What I want to happen is a Washington vs San Jose cup final. That's what I'm going to predict as well. I don't want a team that has already won the cup in the last 15 years to win it again. No Detroit, Dallas, New Jersey, Colorado, Anaheim. Bring on Nashville, San Jose, Washington, Calgary, Minnesota. Like you said as long as ottawa doesn't win it then I'm happy but I don't think they will. | 0 @ 08-04-2008 04:56 jsimms52 | 24,110 posts
| Apparently Alfredsson, Kelly and Fisher are expected to be out 1st round. Thank you Mark Bell. | 0 @ 08-04-2008 22:41 fishmunky | 20,320 posts
| Habs/Bruins - Habs in 4
Pens/Sens - Pens in 5
Caps/Flyers - Caps in 6
Devils/Rangers - NYR in 7
Wings/Preds - Wings in 5
Sharks/Flames - Sharks in 5
Wild/Avs - Avs in 6
Ducks/Stars - Ducks in 6
Pittsburg has more than enough to go far, veteran presence, consisnently good goaltending, and the young guns are ruining lives in the NHL, Sens are missing their leadership, have had brutal goaltending (sorry folks but if Carolina's cup run taught us anything, its that marty gerber aint a playoff goalie) plus their D has been brutal
teams to watch for: Rangers in the east, Avs in the West, seriously no love so far in post season predictions, they'll ruin a lot of playoff pools | 0 @ 09-04-2008 00:52 xcr4zyx | 31,691 posts
| Montreal 8th? lol. | 0 @ 09-04-2008 02:17 Mr_Pie_Guy_69 | 1,505 posts
| Shush Jeremy Hasek is a brick wall in the net but he's a diver and a sook hahaha and he's old
Al Macinnis is from here in Cape Breton when the flames won the cup in 89 he brought the Stanley Cup here lol
I love the Flames | 0 @ 09-04-2008 03:00 Mr_Pie_Guy_69 | 1,505 posts
| Calgary at San Jose Wednesday game 1
Go Flames Go | 0 @ 11-04-2008 12:33 jsimms52 | 24,110 posts
| Well Maria if you look at the date on that post you would have noticed that I predicted them to finish 8th LAST season, not this season
Hasek isn't that great of a goalie but when you have arguably the leagues best D-corps in front of you to go along with one of the top offenses in the league, you're going to win some games. He just can't stay healthy. | 0 @ 11-04-2008 19:07 Mr_Pie_Guy_69 | 1,505 posts
| Yeah, I don't like the redwings or Hasek at all. lol
I hope Nashville tears them hahaha |
