| No more football till August after today...hopefully the AFC will stay ahead. Now I have to wait till April for the draft...that should be exciting, the 03 class is a really talented class.
Also, the Terry Tate commercials were great...he effin rules. |

| is this american football? or european?..
I still can't figure out why they call american football for football.. when do you really use your feet in that sport? one time when you are supposed to kick it looooong and hiiiiiigh over all the players? Soccer is the sport which should be called football in english American football even needed a european/norwegian guy to learn them how to kick the ball in the right way..(how many angry football fans have I upset now..lol) | 0 @ 11-02-2004 18:32 McKracken | 104 posts
| Yeah this forum does seem to suck in terms of sports knowledge.
It's called Football here in the states because it's been popular here since the 30's...soccer or "European Football" has only become really big in the past decade over here. In Football, there are 2 specialty positions that deal exclusively with kicking the ball, the Punter and the Kicker. The Punter, oddly enough punts the ball off to the other team, and the Kicker does all the place kicking, for Kickoff's and for either a PAT(point after touchdown) or a Field Goal, which involves him kicking it off the ground through an upright goal post anywhere from 30 to 60 yards away. | 0 @ 11-02-2004 18:36 McKracken | 104 posts
| Also...I'm not sure what're talking about when you say they needed a Norwegian guy to teach how to kick the ball the right way. All of the kickers in the NFL are American. They might have some different backgrounds, like the Grammatica brothers, who I believe are of Italian descent, but all the kickers come from Colleges and Universities here in the states, and besides that, the best kicker in the game, Jason Elam, is definitely not European or Norwegian. | 0 @ 11-02-2004 20:23 Gaute | 1,405 posts
| I mean, I heard somewhere that waaay back in time, americans didn't know how to get the ball to go high..and that this norwegian guy showed them.. I will check my sources, right now!
So, you seem to know your bit about both the sports (american and european football) what do you prefer? | 0 @ 12-02-2004 04:47 McKracken | 104 posts
| I'd have to check as well, I'm not certain about that piece of history.
I've played both sports, used to play European Football, and I still currently play American Football for my college, both great sports. | 0 @ 12-02-2004 11:57 Gaute | 1,405 posts
| I've never played american football, though I've tried rugby..and too me it seems to be quite the same..
European football is more my kind of thing do you have a favourite team in soccer? | 0 @ 13-02-2004 00:35 McKracken | 104 posts
| I dont pay much attention to pro soccer, I find it more entertaining to play instead of watch...but there's a pro team 20 minutes away from me back home, so I pull for them.
Rugby is a lot of fun, but it's really nothing like American Football at all. | 0 @ 13-02-2004 14:24 Gaute | 1,405 posts
| well..isn't there anything with rugbt and am.football thaqt are the same?
RBK is best! I promise you,,, | 0 @ 13-02-2004 14:25 Gaute | 1,405 posts
| Ahh,,sorry,,I missed a lot of buttons there...it's supposed to say: rugbY and that... | 0 @ 13-02-2004 16:17 McKracken | 104 posts
| Basically, the only thing that's similar between rugby and american football is tackling.
Rugby is more of a fluent game like soccer.
American Football has 30,000 rules, regulations, penalties, etc... The game is very stop and go. The game is way too complex to explain verbally in a forum. But after each play, depending on what happened, the clock stops, or cotinues, and a new play starts, both offense and defense huddle, and call a play before they get to the LOS (line of scrimmage) and hike the ball. | 0 @ 14-02-2004 00:40 McKracken | 104 posts
| On another note, I'm so frustrated I dont get the NFL Network here...such a great channel, at least I get it at home. | 0 @ 14-02-2004 01:32 Gaute | 1,405 posts
| Hmm..okey...30 000 rules? Yeah..That's ALOT!! wow..soccer is still more kind of my thing..but if I ever get the chance to try out am. football I guess I would give it a try...But I still care more for soccer anyway! | 0 @ 14-02-2004 06:11 McKracken | 104 posts
| 30,000 is a huge exaggeration, but a lot more than soccer or rugby.
Id have to say the pads make american football a lot different from rugby as well. Personally, I think the way the game is structured, it makes for a much more dramatic and exciting time. | 0 @ 14-02-2004 06:12 beefwellington | 2,982 posts
