Amen to that

& i know static you got a hot head but dude just relax, we all love music here, the bands you've listed r great punk bands, but you can't deny the fact that Nirvana has promoted punk rock, if you've followed their music you'd know & i would have probably added The Bouncing Souls, The Vandals, Rage against The machine in the punk list......

Promoting punk is so different from being a punk band, Rage is rap metal. Which is about the opposite of punk..

ok ok let a professional in.

1 nirvana are or were (however you would like to think of them) are grunge. kurt himself said he broke away from punk coz he thought the music was a lie to the meaning of punk!
of his head personally.
and 2 where are the sex pistols in all of this. one of the origanl and best and will never die! god love em!!

It's really hard to make a list of ALL the punk bands that are out there, especially since a lot of people disagree. But I like quite a bit of the list.

If we're talking punk rock, you gotta include the Living Things. I feel weird plugging them like this, but I feel kinda stupid being the only one who gives a crap about them around here. The album's great and it got rave reviews, why aren't their lyrics here? AHEAD OF THE LIONS!

P.S. I am not getting paid for this. I am doing this because I sincerely love the Things. Please at least listen to the album.

punk
(uncountable) a social and musical movement rooted in rebelling against the established order.
(uncountable) the music of the punk movement, known for short songs with electric guitars, strong drums, and a direct, unproduced approach.
thuswise, bands like good charlotte, simple plan, bowling for soup, green day (new) , and mcr are not punk for they are obviously very produced and also are not rebelling much except green day but because
Poseur (Americanized as poser) is a derogatory label for an individual who seeks to identify with a particular subculture, not because they have taken on its shared values but because they seek to gain social status within the culture, or to gain the status associated with it.
they are posers now because they have changed they style so much it is obvious that they want social status as a band
also nirvana is not punk but grunge, an offshoot of the punk genre
emo bands are not punk because they are moct commonly slow, not fast and when they are fast, they arent rebelling anyways
indie bands can be any genre, because indie refers not to a style of music but that the band is on an independent label.
ska bands i.e. less than jake, are offshoots of punk but contain trumpets and are usually much nicer and not as rebellious
anarcho-punk is a sub-genre of punk that is basically the same except that they believe in anarchy and hate the govt
there is your definbition of punk and how to define what is punk and what is not

Hmm. I prefer the second load of bands, but The others are kind of distant punk. Like Greenday have adapted from being good & Punk to Pop Cause they wanted publicity.. American Idiot was just.. lets not go there. I think there should be an inbetween like ''Ponk'' Or ''Pup'' that would be the solution to World war III.

great list!
i was really happy to see these bands on that list:

the casualties
green day
me first and the gimmie gimmies
minor threat
the descendents
rancid
ramones
pulley
pennywise

the mad caddies and tsunami bomb i would consider more ska than anything but it's ok to say they are punk.
sublime i would never say is punk. i don't know what the hell sublime is. there should be a forum about that. but yeah sublime is awesome.
