| oooh funny lol ... when I type with arabic letters alif-lam-lam and ha, it puts automatically hamza and fatha above it and makes that word to be allah lol | 0 @ 22-12-2003 10:14 salaam | 15,547 posts
| ooh and one thing more...
In classical arabic, heart is ÞáÈí (qalbi) but when I listen to arab song, they say it as elbi or albi... so can I write it as ÃáÈí? Without qaf...?
and...
there is a band called sawt el atla and I dunno how to write it with arabic letters.... is it like ÓæÊ Çá ÇØáÓ or is it like ÓæÊ ÇáÇØáÓ ? | 0 @ 22-12-2003 10:58 Katka36 | 11,063 posts

| hmmm... it sounds familair, salaam... I think it's also being pronounced as ya, like, when you find this letter in the word urusalim (Jerusalem) like urusalim elkuds (Holy Jerusalem) or Israiil as in Israel, there are two ya's one on the standard version- with two dots, or a line above it, and the other one is with the chamsa above it, I think... but I'm not sure... anyways, if I'm right, it should be pronounced the same as the regular ya... ach, me and my Arabic wannabe self.. | 0 @ 22-12-2003 13:06 salaam | 15,547 posts

the yih without dots & with a hamza is pronounced as a hamza. if the hamza isn't connected to other letters (like after a dal, for example) it'll look like a stand-alone hamza. if it's connected, it'll look like the one you're talking about.
the bih-looking letter with 3 dots instead of 1 is pronounced the way 'p' is. a qaf with 3 dots instead of 1 is pronounced as a 'v'. these aren't true Arabic letters. they're borrowed from another language. maybe Urdu, I don't know.

oh, yeah. the qalbi thing...
you have to spell it with a qaf. proper Arabic, like the Arabic found in the Quran & the Arabic spoken way back when, is very very very different from the way Arabs today speak. but you'll find that Arabs in Saudi and the gulf countries speak a more correct form of the language than Egyptians and Lebanese.
a Saudi would probably say qalbi. an Egyptian will say elbi. | 0 @ 05-01-2004 18:12 blue_skies | 32 posts

the qaf thing's like the thih. the word for fox is tha3lab but you'll find people saying ta3lab instead. same thing with thor (bull) and tor.
