| Well, when you lock them up, you just waste space and money. Not to mention, if death really wasn't a punishment, the inmate would just commit suicide...

| I think they should stop with the death penalty, not because its cruel or whatever but because why should they get an easy way out, i saw the state of prisons in rio and gang members in them like 200 people in a cell made for 25, thats what they should get instead of death, its a much bigger punishment. i dont get it, but most people in the goverment are on a diff wave length to me neways | 0 @ 01-08-2005 16:36 Kinsdragon1 | 249 posts
| studies have shown that criminals dont find death to be a very good deterrant to crime. it really isnt effective and its actually a lot more expensive to keep people on death row than it is to put them in jail. | 0 @ 01-08-2005 16:39 DeadTeddyBear | 4,093 posts
| what was the statistic?
90% of men on deathrow didn't commit the crime they were charged it. | 0 @ 01-08-2005 16:54 Kinsdragon1 | 249 posts
| that must suck. honestly we need to improve jail conditions in our country too. | 0 @ 01-08-2005 17:00 DeadTeddyBear | 4,093 posts

| Stop the death penalty? why? Very few places and or states actually have and use the death penalty. Personally I believe that it should be brought back in full force, from old sparky to the hanging tree. The stiffer the punishment the less of the crime. Right now going to prison for murder is a joke. Ok so I do 25 yrs, big deal. Most get out in 10 to 12 anyway. Sexual molest the poor kid next door and you get 1 to 2 yrs. Plus you run the prisons. Shoot even Dudley Doo Right could do a yr standing on his head with one arm tied. Deal drugs, well there is a real good chance you won't even see a jail. Why is this? Well b/c the world is to liberal and has to many bleeding hearts that think this is cruel and unjust punishment. They would rather pay the crooks to deal drugs in jail, go to college, learn trades, sleep all day, lift weights (so they can get stronger and not be taken back again) In a Few other countries they have the right idea. Get caught drinking and driving, YOUR WHOLE FAMILY goes to jail with you. Not sure about anyone else, but the last thing I want in a jail cell with me bitching is my wife and mother. anotrher country, get caught stealing, you lose a hand (telling everyone you are a thief) get caught again, lose your head. So yes I am all for the death penalty. I am also in support of the victims should get to decide the punishment, or should be allowed to met out the punishment. ESP for baby rapers. | The death penalty is supposed to be a detterent in the US but it is not. The ones that go to prison and are convicted to the death penalty get to actually serve the rest of their lives on death row. Do I agree with the death penalty? Yes, I do believe in it. I feel that if it is carried out swiftly and severly (as severly as possible) then it would be a deterent. After reading all of this, I have got to say that many of you make good points, however the point of the entire issue is that a person who is on death row is there b/c he or she murdered, raped or molested someone. They CHOOSE to commit this act. And those who didnt choose then they use the excuse that they were insane at the time, they didn't mean to, they are sorry for what they done. I for one would push the button to release the lethal injection meds into a person's veins, the one to push the button for the electric chair, the one to open the gas into the chamber, the one to put the noose around their neck and the one to buy the bullet for them. They dont deserve to live, while me and other tax paying citizens to house cloth and feed them. Not to mention that they took the right of their victim to live a normal life such as living, breathing and having a family. The Old Testament had it right...and eye for an eye....It is time for people to quit making excuses for their actions and take responsiblity for what they have done.

| I don't think the death penalty should be banned. Some people, such as Scott Peterson, deserve it and its just a way to punish people that have done too many terrible things. | 0 @ 21-08-2005 16:01 KaRocket | 62 posts
| NO, if we do kill them we are just as bad as them!! They should be put in jail to do things that could help mankind. We could use them to do tests on. | 0 @ 21-08-2005 16:10 slim_gary | 7,286 posts
| i think that killing the person just lets the person that did the crime off easy. when they are dead, they dont have to live with the fact that they did a crime. i think that they should be made to be put in prison, and not get some mamby pamby lawyer to find a loophole that lets them off scot free... either that or they should be made to wear bright orange boiler suits and be marched around the cities for people to throw apples at them.. but then all the health and safety people would be up in arms because what if the murderer slips on the apple and breaks his leg!! its pretty disgusting.....the murderer must also have been proven guilty before any of this happens as well.. | 0 @ 22-08-2005 03:41 KaRocket | 62 posts

| When a murder is about to execute his victim- the victim still has hope that someone will come or the killer comes to his senses oor something. When you sentence a murderer to execution- that takes away all hope. THAT is what's wrong with death penalties. Let the criminals stay in jail all their lives for all everyone cares. They won't get out, and no one gets hurt. | 0 @ 04-09-2005 07:40 this_one_guy | 231 posts
| Killing someone to teach others not to kill somehow seems silly to me,... "Killing for peace is like fucking for chastity." Good analogy. What does killing accomplish? If you lock someone up in a cell for life, they at least have some chance to make peace with themselves, and with the victims' relations etc. If they die, that's it, no chance, nothing. At least with a life sentence they have a chance-who cares how small, microscopic amounts of anything are still more than nothing. What will a victim's family get from the death of their relation's killer....? Nothing. Nothing but perhaps some kind of superficial comfort that they think they need to support their human insecurities. And the price is someone's life. I don't see the sense. | 0 @ 04-09-2005 07:45 FireWaterBurn | 28,885 posts
| The Death Penalty is awesome. You kill? Then you are killed, simple as that. | 0 @ 04-09-2005 07:51 this_one_guy | 231 posts
| But isn't a punishment supposed to fix a problem? What does killing the person who killed fix? If you're going by the "Eye for an eye" principle, then shouldn't we kill them the same way they killed their victim anyway? | 0 @ 04-09-2005 07:52 FireWaterBurn | 28,885 posts
| The whole point is to get these kinds of people off of the earth. I do not want a murderer living without worrying about money, playing basketball, and lifting weights the rest of his life | 0 @ 24-09-2005 03:00 random_guy | 7,534 posts
| Since i live in Australia, there is no death penalty, but some people deserve to die and need it. What about the September 11 bombers, the bali bombers, Sadaam Hussein...etc. | 0 @ 12-10-2005 20:58 smart_swish | 39 posts
| The death penalty seems morally wroing, but should society have to keep tabs on someone who is deemed too risky. | 0 @ 10-12-2005 18:39 Hike | 1,391 posts

| I am Canadian so we do not have the death penalty here. I feel that if a person kills another human and is sentenced to death it is pointless. I see it that the government is murdering the criminal. And what is the difference between the two? They should just lock them up for the rest of their life. It's pretty much the same thing. | 0 @ 10-01-2006 23:08 aledv13 | 2,337 posts
| they can kill the person it depends on whatever he/she did! | 0 @ 11-01-2006 13:06 dudekrulz | 3,618 posts
| but...what if we found out later than he/she didn't actually do it...
oh dam, they're dead now..oh bugger..mmmm....
Many people in the United States that have been executed through the death penalty have been found out with later evidence that they were innocent and also, many people have been freed sitting on death row becuase of later evidence indicating that they did not commit the crime. | 0 @ 17-01-2006 01:23 Ringaling | 79 posts
| Don't know if anyone mentioned it but the United States is the only developed western democracy that still has the death penalty and only in the states that are quite conservative. The rest of the developed world tends to see that as backward.
Many innocent people are put to death.
I think in general that the state does not have the right to take someone's life. The death penalty is inhumane and medieval.
I'm not claiming serial killers are wonderful people and need to be released as soon as possible. I am saying that the death penalty doesn't solve anything.
It has not been proven to lower crime rates at all.
(Perhaps we should start killing everyone who ever breaks any law. Steal a pencil from a store --> death penalty for you my friend. YAY a world without crime (and people... ))
You know what lowers crime rates? Education, social cohesion, equal and just societies.
Those emotional comments aren't helpful to the discussion, justice isn't about revenge. |
