My point is, Rass, that oftentimes when a person kills someone they begin to develop a taste for it because it puts them into the 'God' position: They control whether someone lives or dies. People like that sense of power, and they want to keep experiencing it and keep killing in order to do so.

If you say that one must die for his actions, you say that the criminal and his crime are the same....
Now, can you really say that? can you really say that everything you do is only your responiability? Isn't everyone determinised by his social enviroment?

look, yes there are some that get the taste for it and want to do it again, those are the ones that turn into serial killers and such, but not ALL of them are like that, i know people who have killed people before, they aren't all violent serial killers who just like killing people! most of them have reasons why they did it

That's true, Plant, and often serial killers are made, not born, usually through abusive mothers. But I have heard of many people who have been abused who turn out all right. In addition to that, the Behavioral Science Unit at the FBI, which studies the behavior patterns of serial killers for a living, has shown that many times they are perfectly sane, intelligent human beings. Now, I know that someone who gets off by killing other people is somewhat nuts, but by the federal definintion, insane means not able to tell right from wrong, and not presenting a criminal mindset. Serial killers, in most cases, know what they are doing is wrong and have a clear prescence of criminal mind in that they try to avoid getting caught. That makes them responsible for their actions, and deserving of the death penalty.

"The truly bonkers ones are the easiest to catch." ~John Douglas, FBI, in his book Mindhunter

no, many people kill others because, guess what, they believe that person deserved to die, i had a best friend that killed someone becuase he believed the pervert deserved to die

it's their own brand of justice without all the hassle of people getting off, sometimes they were wronged by the person they ended up killing, maybe the person made a threat, maybe it wasn't planned it was simply a wrong time wrong place, there are a lot of factors that make it so you can't just say kill them all

raven don't mock people who were abused as children, dont you dare because that's not their fault and alot of people can't handle that, a lot of people, everyone reacts differently to those kind of situations, thats how you get people who become multiple personalitys and such, it's their way to deal with it, so please dont cross that line

thank you, now, to make this clear before any of this debate goes on

i was not saying the deathpanalty should go and no one deserves that kind of thing, i didn't say serial killers deserved to go free, my point was everyone deserves different treatment, just becuase they killed once doesn't mean they will again, there are a lot of factors you have to take in like why they did it, who it was, how and what state of mind they were in, because i can tell you this right now, my brother is the best person on the world, he doesn't curse, drink, fight, he doesn't do anything, he's like a saint, but if anyone did something to me or my little sister, say sexually harrassed us or almost raped us or something, my brother WOULD kill them, and that is a fact

oh and raven, it's not always because their life was crap, picture this, you were abused your whole life, beat by your mother or father or siblings and very very abused, you grow up, something happens and suddenly you are flashed back into the beatings you took as a child, what do you do? in those cases most people would do the first thing they can think of to get that away, sort of a self defense mechanism

when you are abused your whole life or in your childhood it messes with your head raven, they aren't insane, they just have problems and tendencies, they aren't normal because of that, and that isn't their fault

I can see what you're saying, Rass, and you're right: There are those who kill who do not deserve the death penalty. BUt if we take the penalty away, what happens to those who really do deserve it?
