| thought this could be interesting for alll us english speakers here - this is how it works:
1. go to the speech accent archive
2. search for accents recorded by people in your area.
3. listen to them.
4. pick the one that's closest to your accent and post a link to it.
5. we'll listen and make fun of it. |

| nein, supposedly university brings out your home accent because you're mixing with a wide range of accents and it acts as an identifier or something. Which may be true when you first arrive but actually i think over time people's accents move towards RP. And it's a university town so much of the population is from all over. I don't have much contact with "the natives" lol, only real marker is the northern vowels which i've lived around forever and sometimes use anyway | 0 @ 23-06-2008 21:58 Barakine | 21,965 posts
| Hahaha, fun fun. I love it how the end sounds like it's cut off, as if someone attacked and strangled you for dissing American English... =P
And yes, you sound very nice, but different from what I remembered. | 0 @ 23-06-2008 23:00 Dagor | 34,864 posts

| I had the nicest convos in a pub in york .. and I did like the accent a lot. Besides, it were very nice people .. well, one of them was from newcastle .. I didn't like her accent.
hahaha, I remember how one of them had relatives in the states that she visited .. and one of her cousins didn't understand a word of what she was saying, but insisted that she kept talking, because it sounded so pretty | 0 @ 25-06-2008 18:20 LetGo | 816 posts
| Oh this is so interesting. I have to say out of all the people I know/recognize here, I only got Bruna's accent correct. It was exactly how I imagined it. I thought Carole would be a bit more French...and for some reason I imagined Lina's to be American. But oh well, now I know what Lithuanian people sound like.
I wish I could put something up so you all would know what a Pakistani person sounds like but alas, I don't have a mic. And none of the ones on that site sound like me. =( | 0 @ 26-06-2008 09:01 Dagor | 34,864 posts
| But oh well, now I know what Lithuanian people sound like.
Nobody knows because they are from Mars .. honestly, try looking for a country on the world map that is called Lithuania .. on the martian map however | 0 @ 26-06-2008 11:09 Barakine | 21,965 posts
| Psht, shut up Daniel, Lithuania cannot be so easily found because it is only for highly educated people not illiterate ones like you.
And I probably don't speak like the common Lithuanian anyway. |
