| thought this could be interesting for alll us english speakers here - this is how it works:
1. go to the speech accent archive
2. search for accents recorded by people in your area.
3. listen to them.
4. pick the one that's closest to your accent and post a link to it.
5. we'll listen and make fun of it. |

| Out of those language, Portuguese sounds the craziest to me .
I couldn't voice the educational thing, I'm too stupid to be able to read words like "genome" :|. | 0 @ 08-05-2008 14:25 indiechick_ | 8,571 posts
| crazier than lithuanian? oh wow. | 0 @ 08-05-2008 14:35 Barakine | 21,826 posts
| I agree with Carole about me not having any distinctive accent.
And with Tim about Lithuanian being beautiful
And for some reason I can only listen to 10 seconds of Bruna's Portuguese. =( | 0 @ 08-05-2008 14:38 Dagor | 33,241 posts
| aaaaaawwww, Lina .. portuguese is not _that_ bad
Unlike you, I do like portuguese | 0 @ 08-05-2008 14:44 Barakine | 21,826 posts
| Well sorry, I'm afraid my head might explode from more than 10 seconds!
Actually, I'm not particularly fascinated by Portuguese, but it's okaay. | 0 @ 08-05-2008 16:48 indiechick_ | 8,571 posts
| portuguese certainly isn't the prettiest language, but at least i speak with a brazilian accent - it could be worse! portuguese from portugal is completely hideous. | 0 @ 08-05-2008 16:51 Juliet86 | 7,700 posts
| I finally did it, here
I have an ancient mic, it's not the best
And the first few times I did it I fell into some weird, fake british accent and then I had to really concentrate to not do that. So I don't know if this is how I really speak
And no wonder everyone's voices sound strange to me, I don't even recognise my own! | 0 @ 08-05-2008 17:06 indiechick_ | 8,571 posts
| haha nice! you don't have much of an accent. and that file name kinda reminded me of A Streetcar Named Desire. random. | 0 @ 08-05-2008 17:06 indiechick_ | 8,571 posts
| do it in swedish! | 0 @ 08-05-2008 17:09 Juliet86 | 7,700 posts
| Haha, I was thinking of a streetcar named desire, I always do when I hear the name stella, so that's why I named it that
Ok, I'll get working on a translation then. Might take me a few minutes | 0 @ 08-05-2008 17:37 Juliet86 | 7,700 posts
| Swedish Stella
Not a perfect translation, I for example have no idea what snowpeas are, but whatever | 0 @ 08-05-2008 20:49 carole | 26,872 posts
| * offtopic : snow peas
im worse than u, i knew what they were, i just dunno the french for snow peas. maybe cuz we never cook them here. i bought those once, i called them "flat green beans", cuz im normal.
ive come to the conclusion that both lithuanian and swedish scare me. i mean i cant catch one half syllable that would help me understand something
"how close to french do you think [portuguese] sounds, carole? because they all come from latin"
^ i dunno, not very close when i hear it i guess. but i understand spanish and italian, and they are both very close to french.. at least when i listen to portuguese i can recognize some words.
keep recording pple, this is great.
and lol, im in favor of the idea of recording one text, like 3 lines per person. then the awesome idea would be if someone could put them all in the same sound file so we'd have one text with each line read by a different person. that would take some kind of computer genius tho. i mean ive no idea how to do that | 0 @ 08-05-2008 21:25 indiechick_ | 8,571 posts
| i've got GarageBand on my mac which translates to yes i can do it. just tell me when.
and i understand spanish and french almost perfectly, italian not so much. but the spanish often have no clue what we're talking about so i see what you mean. | 0 @ 08-05-2008 21:30 carole | 26,872 posts
| oh u just lost an opportunity to be worshipped by myself (and probably thousands of other computer ignoramuses). i mean why say u own a sotfware that helps u do the soundclip trick ? lol | 0 @ 08-05-2008 21:34 indiechick_ | 8,571 posts
| well, you've got to use some tool! you can worship me for my GarageBand skills? surely you have to have some in order to work it! | 0 @ 08-05-2008 21:43 carole | 26,872 posts
| ok that will do. Bruna is a computer genius ! | 0 @ 08-05-2008 23:01 Dagor | 33,241 posts
| bruna doesn't even own a computer | 0 @ 08-05-2008 23:04 indiechick_ | 8,571 posts
| exactly, i have a mac. it's far more useful then computers! unless you want to play guild wars, then it's useless. | 0 @ 08-05-2008 23:09 Dagor | 33,241 posts
