* offtopic :
i made a new thread cuz we totally hijacked julisa's thread about postcards

"Something i saw on youtube made me think that we lsi pple should write a big community postcard. like, someone writes a few words on a postcard, then they send it to a person from lsi they have the address of, then the person writes something on the postcard, then sends it to someone else and so on.. and in the end the card comes back to me (of course), i scan it and everyone can see the wonderful card that went all around the world, with everyones lil handwritten note on it. i like that idea"

other forummers liked that idea too apparently, namely :

bruna (indiechick)
daniel (Dagor)
james (TheAnnoyance)
jeremy (JDolla)
julisa (Juliet86)
kaitlin (Deadly_Rose)
karla (ice_white_tiger)
lina (Barakine)
maiken (Maycen)
nanki (nanki_c)

^^ all expressed that they want in (if im not mistaken).
other pple talked about it (like tim, aka PunkRckr8...) but im not sure they want in.

i read all your suggestions and they're all great, i just think we need more pple to join in.. like, sierra, tara, phil, anthony, sarah, heather,...

Updated list

anthony (fishmunky)
bruna (indiechick)
daniel (Dagor)
dave (MisterEman)
heather (Schatzi)
james (TheAnnoyance)
jen (zjenn4)
jeremy (JDolla)
julisa (Juliet86)
kaitlin (Deadly_Rose)
karla (ice_white_tiger)
lina (Barakine)
maiken (Maycen)
nanki (nanki_c)
sarah (Cheater138)
tara and mikey (batmanpinkypunk and mikey_boy)
tim (PunkRckr8)

i am not opposed to the idea of being the person who has all the addresses. but i think we should preserve the surprise effect.

so heres what im gonna do, im gonna PM a few pple to make sure they're aware that this card thing is happening. and i'll ask a few pple for their addresses. then i'll start the card and send it to someone.
important point : i will not give anyones address to anyone else without making sure the first person agrees on that. thats gonna kill the surprise effect a lil but oh well.

i hope all that makes sense.

to whoever receives the postcard :

situation 1 : u received it but u have no one to send it too. =( aw. PM me, i'll give u someone's address to send it to.
situation 2 : u received it and u have someone to send it too : please make sure the person is aware what this card thing is. either cuz they posted here, or cuz uve talked to them about it.
situation 3 : u havent received the card, but u might get it soon cuz u're definitely on the list. just be patient.
situation 4 : u havent received the card, and u know u wont ever get it. u suck, dont worry, it happens.
situation 5 : u look fabulous today. no really. hot and sexy all over.
situation 6 : u received the card, but your dog ate it. u suck, big time. we all hate u and your dog too.

all in all : have fun =)

not to forget the idea to assemble everything yourself. Low transportation costs due to small volumes, and the don't have to do the assembling themselves

I must admit, it was a bit of work until the cupboard with the drawers was ready (about 9 of them i think). The whole thing came in 376 parts!

lol yea, u dont wanna know how much time i spend in ikea stores.. makes gabriel think im a weirdo.

and yea, assembling things yourself has another advantage : it makes customers think that they're good at DIY stuff, when actually a chimpanzee could assemble the stuff most of the time. its always a good idea to make customers feel good about themselves.
that makes me think of the stores (like H&M) who sell clothes one or two sizes larger than in other clothes stores. it makes customers think they're slimmer, hence come back to buy more stuff.
its diabolical but smart

that's what marketing is all about - cunning, evil plans to make people buy things. i expect to see all my fellow classmates from university on our 100 year reunion in hell

I don't think we have Ikea here. *gasp*
I've only heard about it from LSI people.

Yes, I've only done it once by myself, but it was fun. And yeah, it made me feel good.
One thing I've wondered about ikea: Do they translate the funny/weird names at all, or do they just keep the swedish ones that can't make sense at all to foreigners? I've never been to ikea outside of sweden

that makes me think of the stores (like H&M) who sell clothes one or two sizes larger than in other clothes stores.

Oh my god, don't tell me that's why half my clothes are from H&M!

they dont translate the names (at least here), which gives me an opportunity to make fun of the language and repeat the words with a funny accent.
its a good idea too, instead of buying a "black ## x ## x ## small table", u buy a Leksvik, and u feel swedish all over

Haha, true

You know the names? You really are an ikea freak

Alot of things have names that mean something too, like a handle for something, and it's called pull. That's just so obvious that it gets funny.
And one's called polite. And some stuff's called cautious, memories, point(yeah I looked it up) And who wouldn't want a chair called memories?

haha that's interesting lisa. they don't translate the names here as well, or so i reckon. the problem is sometimes it would be helpful to know the name, because it seems like the product has got more to it and you feel like you're missing out on something. or you just have no clue what it is/does.

actually i suspected that they used poetic names
(and i dunno the names by heart, lol, i see too many, and they're in this weird language lol.. i was just on the ikea website and picked a random object's name)

now, Julisa, its time to send that postcard. do it ! do it !

I won't be long with it, but I want to continue the chain of sending something extra, and I don't know what yet. Or who I should send it to

I don't want it to take long either. I'll think about it and ask you for an address tomorrow (if I don't get a brilliant idea tonight) and then I'll post it right away

seeing the way how things are actually working with this postcard thing, it leads me to believe that we could even have a secret santa someday. with carole organizing it, of course.

it's a bit early to start thinking about christmas. but when we get closer to the date we should totally consider the idea. we just need to get more people to join in and it shall be awesome.
