I am considering having my tongue pierced as ive wanted it done for a few years, my sister has just had hers peirced and hasnt had any problems but my parents are still unsure about it...Has anyone got any information about them to try and perhaps persuade my parents more and information about how old you have to be and relevant topics such as these...?

Thanks x

i think they look cool and sexy. but, there really is no argument u could tell your parents, cuz even if a piercing is harmless, theres no way u can force someone to like them. and i am well aware of how parents view them, considering im a grown-up and i left my parents house a long time ago, yet they always hated my eyebrow piercing and tried to have me take it off many times (i did, eventually, not cuz of them tho).
i think that to parents, piercings are really about driving an unnatural hole in your baby's perfect and loveable body, so it can look uglier and maybe get infected. so yea, u can understand that they disapprove of the whole concept.

having said that, your sister had one done, so your parents could agree on u getting one too

I got my tongue piserced last month. I spent almost 4 months persuaving my parents on letting me have it. Maybe they got tired of my nagging, I don't know.
But why won't your parents let you have one, if they let your sister have one?

there is no set age of how old you have to be to get it done. it all depends on the state, ow where you live. most places will let you get it done at 14 if you have a parent with you.
make sure its something you REALLY want though. they leave really nasty, gross looking scares on you tounge when you take it out. it dosnt hurt to bad when you get it done. it can mess up your teeth pretty bad too...
also just be careful where you get it done, some places are really scummy.

^ whoa scary.
one of my (oldest) students always plays with his tongue jewel thing, and its of a bright fluorescent blue so u cant miss it. ive found myself stopping in the middle of a sentence a few times cuz its disturbing to notice that when u're talking to a class. i wouldnt encourage my 13yo kid to get one, but thats just me. u can always wait til u're older, its not like your life depends on getting one..

I could eat normally from the day I got mine done.
Not everyone need to eat stuff like that. x]
It totally depends on the person who get it.

No, I don't.
But my tongue didn't get swollen. Only the morning, the day after I got it done.

I never saw this thread.. but I got my tongue pierced in August last year, and out of the 9 piercings I have, it has been the only one to NOT be infected at one point in time. I clean all my piercings well, as I am supposed to. But your mouth contains bad bacteria and good bacteria, so infection is very slim. Plus, since it's in your mouth, it's easyt to hide incase you need to. I don't know if these are great points for your parents. But just sit them down and be an adult about it and tell them you'd really like it, and promise to take care of it. I jumped into getting piercings, and I do regret it a lot. As much as I love them, they can be a pain, and I actually have a scar on my eyebrow from an eyebrow piercing, and it will actually NEVER go away. I will have it there when I'm a 90 year old granny, lol.

Just be careful and take time to think about what you really want.

Yeah, it really does hurt. Not so much when you get it done, but the healing process is terrible. I couldn't eat or talk normally for about 2 weeks.
