Some 90s smooth nighttime song. No clue!

| I always hear this song here and there on like the alternative and slow jams stations at night like after 8 and it's driving me crazy not even knowing the words.
I can hear the same part over and over in my head...I've searched and asked and I have nothing.
I don't know what it is but I KNOW what it's not
It's a song from the 90s....maybe 80s I don't know. The singer sounds like a black lady maybe. In a way in some places it sort of sounds like Mariah Carey from like the 90s but it's not.
The only part I can hear in my head and still remember is the singer singing "How can I.I.I.I.I.I.I." holding the "I" for a while then after that comes something then something like "feel the pain....or sense the pain" Something pain I think.
And the song starts off with like heavy breathing or huffing "ha ha ha ha ha ha haaaa, ha ha ha ha ha ha haaaa" But she singing it not HA but a huff like when your out of breath.
I KNOW 1000000% that it's NOT How Do I Live by Leann Rimes and Trisha Yearwood....ABSOLUTELY NOT
I REALLY have no clue. I just want to know who sings it. Because for YEARS this is ALL I can remember |

| OMG, Sgt Pepper thank you SO much! I have asked everywhere and it seemed like no one had a clue as to what I was talking about. I KNEW it was a early 90s song.
