yeas it is! Think about the pronouncination (sp) ... as how you pronounce words as girl, understand and pronounce.... you write them totally differently! Finnish is written as you speak it.

It's strange that countries in the north like norway, sweden and denmark have languages that is so like, and then come finnish..that isn't understandable! (For me...)

Al though it think i could manage to pronounce it, but not understand, salaam, do you have the letters 'æ, ø, å' in finnish like in norwegian, swedish & danish?

Well the finnish language is more related to the russian language than the other scandinavian countries. Finnish and russian are both Urgish (don't really know the proper translation for that) languages, swedish norweigan and danish are not.

Gaute: The same people speaks "Samiska", pretty close to finnish for us who doesn't speak it. I just know it is two different languages. But both belongs to the finnish-ugrian language group.

-----

Russian is NOT an ugrish/ugrian language. It is THE most important Slavonic language. It belongs to the eastern-slavic language group.
Finnish, Hungarian, Estonian, Sami and a bunch of languages in Siberia speaks languages in this language group.

So, russians and swedes have the same problem to understand finnish when looking at how much the languages are related to each other.
