| i didnt want to put legalization of prostitution in the subject. but i have to make a formal debate on the subject and im against...but there are a lot of valid points for the pro side that i cant seem to rebut....also im looking for my own valid points...
here are some that the pro side might use
1. reduction of theft, STDs, battery and murder
2. generates revenue
3.makes industry safer
4.less profitable for crimes
5.(on stds) in nevade where in some small places its legal the girls and clients have to get tested for STDs to keep it safe
6. more taxes for government
my points(not that many and some dont have enough support)
1.would they make unions for it....
2.HIV discrimanation-if you cant discrimanate then they cant legalize prostitution one contradicts the other
3.sex addiction-can prove w/porn rates and the high level of stds amoung population
4. depression...distructive to human psyche(for girls or guys who chose to do this)
i am looking for some points here as i am also researching i will post some more...thanx for any imput anyone puts in. |

| Oi. I wish I was still in school, I did a paper on this.
Um, I agree that it'd be nice to regulate it as something legal for the purposes of taxes and making sure what is out there and legal is clean, or at least listed with what-not. On the upside it'd created really weird jobs for the market, thanks to Bush ruining it, and creating a new stock for purchase(on a smaller scale of things). It could eliminate some of the illegal activities out there, and if anyone reading this took economics you know how the black market gets effected when more of the product is available. By black market I mean the non-legalized sex stuff.
On the other hand, it could become addictive and create more problems than it's worth. Such as knowing who's legal, which "stores" are selling it illegally, price ceilings on the stuff, and being a scapegoat for ruining relationships. Religious movements could also pose a serious threat to this. Last I checked 80%+ of americans considered themselves christians and even tho many violate simple "law", prostitution is something some just won't tolerate. Sorta like when The Beatles said they were more popular than Jesus. Oi. What a mess.
*thinks*
I'd legalize it. I'd also legalize weed, but only in certain areas ;p | 0 @ 01-10-2003 02:18 DaRkSiDe | 21,558 posts
| legalize the illegal and people won't do it!! I rest my case | 0 @ 01-10-2003 03:54 built2liv | 5,278 posts
| What I don't get is the following:
The girls get tested, let's say once a month or something? What happens when a guy inbetween the testing phases gives her an STD. The papers will legally say she is clean, even though she is not. Is every guy going to be required to use protection? Also, I'm sure some guys will take advantage of their strength and somehow get by without using protection (i.e. rape)....just something to think about. | 0 @ 01-10-2003 04:04 anoobis | 15,407 posts
| u cant really say it shouldnt be legal...there's nothing LEGALLY wrong with it, but there's plenty that's MORALLY wrong...and its a shame the two dont mix very well. besides, it's gonna happen anyway...y else do u think it's the oldest profession? | 0 @ 01-10-2003 18:15 Plantagenet | 12,864 posts

| I hate the idea of the government controlling sex, whether it's for money or not. I mean, yes, rape should obviously be illegal, but gah! There are states where gay sex is illegal...in my state, oral sex is illegal. Since when does the government have any right to dictate what goes on in the privacy of a bedroom/home between two consenting adults? | 0 @ 01-10-2003 22:55 RedStarCheese | 626 posts
| Since Bush passed that friggin privacy act ;p
Haha yea, I still remember the carvings/statues the Greeks made of prostitution. I've always thought of prostitution like this: It's $500, sometimes, to get what it is that you want, right? Flat out cash. No need to take her to dinner, buy flowers, take her places, repeat. You might spend $500 doing all that anyway, just to get sex. Might as well skip it all.

| Yes, yes it is. I think prostitution should be legalised. That way people can be more open about things, people can be checked up and vetted for diseases.... I mean at the end of the day, prostitution is not hurting anyone directly... it's what people feel they have to do for money. | 0 @ 02-10-2003 15:36 Masterful_Ally | 15,627 posts

| Prositution needs to be legalised so that it can be monitored. Do you have any idea how many prostitues are raped, abused and murdered? It's not reported because there is still this horrible belief that prostitues are second rate citizens, which is ridiculous. They are just people desperate to earn enough money to live, just like anyone else.

| As other people in this forum have stated...the gov't has no right to legislate sexual activity among consenting adults, and dating could be considered a form of prostitution. So...yeah, it should be legal. | 0 @ 03-10-2003 13:02 Plantagenet | 12,864 posts
| mostly it shoudl be legal for the better social status of the women, cause now there is so much illegal women-trade, that it makes me sick! | 0 @ 06-10-2003 21:07 rawkerNoNagal | 9,981 posts
