| Lev.15:19- 24: no contact with women during their period of menstual uncleanliness, must make the work environment awkward huh?
Women didn't not work back then.
But they do today, your point is invalid, if the scripture states its law, like your homosexuality is an abomination, then you should still follow this law to the letter correct?
Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations, does this mean i may own an american or a mexican as long as i pay?
That's what Moses premitted, not God.
but not 5 chapters before this Moses was speaking on God's behalf when he was claiming homosexuality was an abomination, how do you know the lord did not permit this?
Exodus 35:2 says that people who work on the sabbath should be put to death? how many wal mart have you burned down that were open on sundays?
The Sabbath is Saturday, not Sunday. Sunday is the Lord's day.
Regardless my point still stands why don't boycott and get all blood boiled when stores are open on the weekend or when your folks gotta work overtime?
Lev. 11:10: says that eating shellfish is an abomination. is this abomination on par with homosexuality. If so why aren't red lobsters boycotted en masse
If you read the law that was for the Jewish people. Later in the New Testiment God permitted the eating of animals that the Jews considered unclean. Where as with homosexuality it is prohibited in both.
funny how that happens, frees us up to eat bacon, a food Christ himself wouldn't eat cause he considered it unclean
seriously with all these ridiculous laws, how can you look at these laws here and then say yeah, the homosexuality one stands alone as the voice of reason law in the midst of all these inane and outdated archaic ones, its silly and hypocritical, if you really "live by scripture", i personally think you should go all or nothing, otherwise YOU are deliberately distorting scripture to suit your faith
What you have to look at is what is in the Old Testiment, and what is in the New. Devorce was permitted in the Old Testiment, but Jesus says it's not. (unless for sexual fornacation Matthew 5) Where as Homosexuallity is prohibated in both.
You dance around the issues without actually addressing them, if your going to use the examples from the Old Testament, then the old testament thas just as much scriptural impact as the new one does. If you pick and choose which laws to follow from there then you too are guilty of distorting the scripture to fit your lifestyle. All you do is look for biblical reasons to justify your misguided homophobia, you twist the word for your own gain more than any of the people you've accused of doing so. You, my friend, are a massive hypocrit who doesn't no how to deal with the hatred in your own heart, and no amount of praying to a god that you feel allows you to justify your ignorance and misguided feelings will change that. I pity you, and will most certainly pray that you may awaken more enlightened some day | 0 @ 01-11-2007 19:12 andro | 42,248 posts
| You're supossed to take scripture literally! Everything in the Bible is relevant to today. Of course you probably don't agree with that either
If you can't take scripture as truth you got a problem. You should be able to read it and say what God said is true!
Here's are two important points:
1. The Bible has been translated, transcribed and reidealised so many times throughout history that the odds of the modern text being anywhere near to the original text are very slim. It wasn't until the days of Gutenburg that we had a way of standardising texts, and by that time it was a little late to prevent so much from being lost or altered.
2. The Bible was not written by a god. The Bible was written by men who were inspired by a god. Even if gods don't lie (and several of them do, for the record), men can lie. The word of god through man is not the word of god; it is the imperfect word of man. | 0 @ 01-11-2007 19:19 Dagor | 33,879 posts
| And I always wonder why men were chosen to receive god's word and not women. Did God not like women or did he not see them fit to receive it. | 0 @ 01-11-2007 19:20 JDolla | 7,450 posts
| think about translators today. how many of them can get things exactly perfect? its hard to translate figures of speach. what if things were written to stand out more in the original text and today they are just afterthoughts in the bible. what if homosexuality was never originally mentioned, only the act of gay sex. and i think somewhere in the bible it says that regular sex is considered sinful. i could be wrong, but hey, so could everyone else in here. i mean, have any of you ever had a serious sit-down with jesus? | 0 @ 01-11-2007 19:21 fishmunky | 20,412 posts

| Weeeeell a lot of the apostles were big advocates on virginity actually. Like a life of total chastity. Especially Paul. They did say that sex was ok when you were married, in fact it was good to have sex.
Most of the words translated as "homosexual" were ambiguous anyway. There was no word for homosexual back then. There were words for pederasty (an older man having a sexual relationship with a young boy) and there were words for prostitute...the word for prostitute that was translated as homosexual in one place was also used for heterosexual prostititutes. | 0 @ 01-11-2007 19:32 Dagor | 33,879 posts

God made men to be the spiritual leaders. That's all. It's not that God doesn't like women, it's that He created them to be submissive to men. (that doesn't give you the right to go, and command a women to have sex with you or anything just an FYI. Of course you wouldn't) | 0 @ 01-11-2007 19:53 superman14 | 365 posts

It is the inherent word of God. He told them what to say and they said it. I mean if they didn't He would have taken care of that don't you think? BTW The Bible was written over 1500 years, by 40 different authors, yet it all seems to fit together. No contridictions, or anything. It is perfect! | 0 @ 01-11-2007 19:56 Dagor | 33,879 posts

thank you .. another point to prove that your god is a lot into discrimination. | 0 @ 01-11-2007 19:57 andro | 42,248 posts

Pardon my observation, but that just shows the god of Christianty to be discriminatory against women. Gender discrimination lawsuit, anyone? | 0 @ 01-11-2007 19:59 superman14 | 365 posts

Yes Paul said he did not want to be distracted by a wife. He wanted to solely focus on God, and God alone.
It is good to have sex. (A man and a women who are married...to each other) God created it, not only for the purpose of children, but also as a covenant for a man and a women. It's also to do for refreshment. It helps keep the relationship strong, and blah blah blah.

Nooooo God created men to lead women. To keep them safe. To protect, and provide. Infact women get the better deal. | 0 @ 01-11-2007 20:01 Dagor | 33,879 posts

No, a god told them what to say and then they said something. Whether they wrote it word for word or made parts up, or left things out is something we'll never know. You have to allow for that, at least.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of contradictions in the Bible. The Bible doesn't even agree on the story of the creation and offers two different versions of the creation myth right next to each other in Genesis 1 and 2.
