| Overreacting?
To a teenager who is into the series so much that she can no longer separate the books from real life fully, this is a perfectly logical thing to do under the circumstances.
Obsession can be a very dangerous thing. My question is why this girl's family didn't notice the signs and get her into some counselling. | -1 @ 22-07-2007 20:36 MisterEMan | 614 posts
| That is awesome!
Yea... I'm an @$$hole | 0 @ 22-07-2007 20:57 PunkRckr8 | 10,018 posts
| I kind of doubt the authenticity of this, there have been rumors of people killing themselves over spoilers of Harry Potter for years.
But real or not, I find it rather laughable, so I suppose that makes me an a-hole too | 0 @ 22-07-2007 22:24 Rawrr_ | 486 posts
| Woah.
..That's...wow.
People were saying they were going to spoil it at the midnight thing here, but didn't cause they knew all fans would kill them.
It's crazy to kill yourself over that.

| I don't really believe it, especially because it's not even a real news report.
But even if it is true,
they shouldn't be downloading books.
And, if she loves Harry Potter that much,
wouldn't she be able to tell that something seemed funny about her new, downloaded novel?

| why shouldn't they be downloading books now?

| downloading books to put onto ur ipod i thought was quite normal nowadays? | 0 @ 22-07-2007 23:21 DarXide | 5,907 posts

I totally agree. It's a blog, and the person has apparently reported the speech he/she heard on the "radio". It is possible, and it's quite tragic. But whenever it's a page with "hits" involved. People could do such things | 0 @ 22-07-2007 23:25 ZzZzZzZ | 2,810 posts
| Quite hard to believe... the source isn't really reliable.
If it's true, it's awfull. She most have really, really identified to those characters. | 0 @ 22-07-2007 23:32 dudettel666 | 548 posts
| Well, I'm not familiar with iPods, and as far as I know, downloading is illegal when money isn't involved.
Personally, I wouldn't waste my money on a book I downloaded.
I would rather buy the tangent form.
So I'm just using my own common sense to make assumptions.
And anyway,
I don't waste my time reading fictional overrations like Harry Potter.
Reading other books got me into Berkeley.
I'm not interested in whatever's "in". | 0 @ 22-07-2007 23:34 NightHobbit | 23,475 posts

you shouldn't undermine books that are in they are just as worthy as books that are out per se.
and i never said i liked harry potter either. | 0 @ 23-07-2007 00:06 PunkRckr8 | 10,018 posts
| what the hell does not reading Harry Potter have to do with getting into a university?
half of the people I know who have graduated or are seniors in college read Harry Potter (the other half, including myself, don't understand why, but still)

| * offtopic : Well, I just love to rub my acceptance in.
It means everything to me, cuz my life is crap!
Which is why most of my family can't wait 'till I leave!

| If she's that obsessed over a book, the world may just be better off without her. | -1 @ 23-07-2007 20:32 Ice44 | 196 posts
| ^ If that's really how you feel Mr. FireWaterBurn, then maybe we'd all be better off with you not existing on this earth anymore either. | 0 @ 23-07-2007 20:46 DaDdY_DoLlaZ | 6,046 posts
| as people have already said.. i think its pretty obvious that its fake..
i would think something like this would at least be on one news site somewhere. especially with all of the harry potter stuff going on lately.
and the only sources are blogsites and websites you've never heard of. | -1 @ 24-07-2007 12:22 missulikecrazy | 869 posts
| Why are we getting mad at this girl?...she picked up what she thought was a legitamate book, which turned out to be fake. Oh my, thats really something for us to jump all over on. | 0 @ 24-07-2007 13:56 carole | 27,345 posts
| its definitely a hoax. for proof,a similar hoax was spread when another hp book was released..
however, i wouldnt be too surprised if anyone actually killed themselves over somethin that stupid. way too much importance is given to those books. sure i can understand that pple love the story j.k.rowling invented, but its not like its omg-so-well-written, its just a good detective story. | 0 @ 25-07-2007 15:32 hum | 17,112 posts
| So it Is fake?
And I was about to say that that's what happens when you don't wait for the book, and buy it. But it is fake so.. bleh | 0 @ 25-07-2007 15:33 hum | 17,112 posts
| And I don't think books are just about being omg-so-well-written. | 0 @ 25-07-2007 21:37 DarXide | 5,907 posts
