| I just saw it. And I must say again, that the movies do get better from year to year.
There was Ofcourse Alot from the book that they left out, but that was only to be expected.
I'm not going to complain about the stuff they left out, changed and so on, like other fans will do. ..'cause it's a film, one shouldn't really expect it to be Just Like The Book.
Books will always be better, nothing more to it.
Have you seen it yet? And what did you think of it if you have? |

| im ready to watch this a second time in theaters
but ive always been a big fan of harry potter
& im usually not a fan of long movies | 0 @ 17-07-2007 10:16 Ice44 | 196 posts
| I'm pretty sure every book you have read, then watched the movie about.... have been quite different. I'm happy for this... mostly because I don't want to watch a 13 hour long movie... and for the fact that people still have to read to get the full effect. It's like the book Children of Men was based on... whole other world there. -Pandora
I'd like to add that the movie version of Lord of the Flies was very similar to the novel version, but Tabitha forgot to mention that books go into such great detail and can give the reader a better description of a scene by exercising a said reader's imagination, especially in a book like Harry Potter. But it's cool when a movie like this is made, cuz then we can see if what we had imagined while reading the book is similar to what the Director of the movie feels to be an accurate depiction of a certain magical object or creatures. The movie would be something that people will have a larger percentage of experiencing than reading the book, cuz thats just how society is nowadays.
AND, before I go, I'd just like to say that for a movie like this, they should revert to the old school style (I'm talkin Grindhouse style) -much like Tarantino and Rodriguez did with their recent movie- and make it a lengthy movie (possibly four hours or a little more) with a ten-minute intermission in-between so people can go have a smoke or simply stretch their legs, cuz I've heard ppl complain that Lord of the Rings was a long movie (which I didn't care, cuz it was LOTR!!), and I can empathize, but movie theaters just don't run that way anymore. Just think about how much more this movie would cost to add on another two or three hours on. But anyways, yeah, I can dream, can't I? | 0 @ 17-07-2007 16:11 FWBcurt | 49 posts
| I really can't see why people would think that these are children's books.
lol
Isn't this the last book or something? And people are telling the author to write more? Saw something on the news before I quickly changed it. | 0 @ 17-07-2007 16:36 hum | 17,112 posts
| & the Order of the Poenix isn't the last book, but the one being released the 21st is(& the Deathly Hallows).
What is the point you are trying to make, Curtis? | 0 @ 17-07-2007 16:48 Dagor | 34,824 posts
| That is what I am asking myself too .. he clearly hasn't read them. So how come you have an opinion about them? Or are you just wanting to be cool? | 0 @ 17-07-2007 19:09 FWBcurt | 49 posts
| That is it Dagor. I want to be cool. And to be cool, I must discuss books about fairy tales with 40 year old men and teen girls. So I am trying really really hard to be cool and fit in.
Point is... It's pretty damn easy to see why people think it's a childrens book. HP fans just can not understand that. | 0 @ 17-07-2007 19:22 Killmistress | 569 posts
| Even if everyone, not just Curt was calling them children's books I really wouldn't care, I'd read them anyway.
Anyway if you haven't read them Curt you probably should, before you assume everything. You might end up liking them more than you thought you would. | 0 @ 17-07-2007 19:35 LetGo | 816 posts
| They are not books about fairytales. Just because it has some unreal stuff in it doesn't it make it a childrens' book or a fairytale. | 0 @ 17-07-2007 19:47 FWBcurt | 49 posts
| Assume everything?
Like?
Nah, I'll pass on the reading. I don't have the time to sit down and read books. Not my thing whatsoever. | 0 @ 17-07-2007 19:57 Killmistress | 569 posts
| You're assuming the books are constructed completely from fantasy and therefore have no other value whatsoever...if you haven't read them, then how do you know? Just because it's got magic and stuff in it? | 0 @ 17-07-2007 21:37 Pandora | 22,886 posts

did I really have to mention that? It's a bit known.

| To get back to discussing the movie, I have to say that I was a bit disappointed. It needed to be longer, too much was taken out, especially dialogue and such, so the feeling of the book was lost. Also, to me the book is "fact" and when they make a movie they can't include all the "facts", but they can't change them (in my opinion, I know there are others) too much. In this movie they did, a lot. | 0 @ 20-07-2007 19:44 TBags1692 | 11 posts
| :] This movie is completely AWESOME! :]
Loved it! | 0 @ 20-07-2007 19:59 FWBcurt | 49 posts
| Just because it's got magic and stuff in it?
Well...it is fantasy... a brief look at the plot cna tell you that. Even if ther eis a deeper meaning, stuff like magic isn't real.. | 0 @ 20-07-2007 23:13 LetGo | 816 posts
| Hmm, a little late but I finally saw it. I didn't think it was all that good because of all the missing details. All I can say is that a person who hasn't read the books will be blank about half of whats going on in the movie. The Department of Mysteries part was great. | 0 @ 20-07-2007 23:56 Maycen | 20,724 posts
| I kinda agree with Curtis. People who haven't read them probably think it's silly that people obsess so much. And I think in the beginning they were aimed at kids, but people of all ages have grown to love them, and the books have gotten darker. Anyway, we're all kids really. Not a bad thing. | 0 @ 20-07-2007 23:57 PinkFloyd | 25,906 posts

| And I think in the beginning they were aimed at kids, but people of all ages have grown to love them, and the books have gotten darker.
ie: Batman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. aimed for kids but if you read some of the comics that are out their that are semi-popular, they're dark as hell. thats kind of whats happened to Harry Potter, aimed for kids but since the kids that were 8 at the time are now 20, they kind of still need to appeal to them as well as the new batch of 8 year olds. and since its so popular, kind of like, uh, Ipods, 40 year olds are getting into it as well to see what its all about. | 0 @ 28-07-2007 15:40 ZzZzZzZ | 2,810 posts
| I just saw the movie, finally.
It was better than I expected. Obviously lots of stuff had to be left out, but they managed to keep the essentials without to many major changes. What I mean is that, in comparison to the previous movies, I didn't had that 'oh! they left that out...' feeling. The movie had a really good rythm that made me forget those left out parts.
On the other hand, the fact that they keep changing directors have an impact on the movies because obviously they all have a different interpretation of what the movie should be like. The last two Mike Newell and David Yates gave us a really 'Hollywood' ending, corny and unappropriate.
Beside that, good movie.

| I loved this movie!!!
dark and fantastic. I saw it 2 days after i read the last book so i was a little Harry Potter depressed but it really brought me back to life.
It was well worth the £5 i spent on it | +1 @ 07-08-2007 15:33 Dagor | 34,824 posts
| There is something that I specifically liked in the movie: okay, so the boys and girls know a bit of magic too, but it's quite a different thing when the adult wizzards perform a bit of high-class duelling. | 0 @ 18-11-2007 19:18 Petroviic | 2,107 posts
| Saw it and loved it ! Can't wait to buy it on DVD when it comes out in Sweden | +1 @ 18-11-2007 21:49 carole | 27,345 posts
| i thought it sucked. i didnt read that one tho, but i read the books up til the goblet of fire.
this movie was lame, its the same story as the other books over and over again : no one believes harry, theres a world conspiracy against him, dumbledore is acting weird towards him all thru the movie, then dundundun huge surprise, its only cuz he was protecting harry... yea i dunno i dont fall for it anymore.
the whole story bored me. i think i fell asleep at some point actually. i liked the first three movies (and books) cuz there was a plot, a puzzle, u had to figure things out, and find the secrets. now in this movie we already know whos bad and whos good, so its only a war movie, and i hate war movies with a passion. | 0 @ 20-11-2007 04:37 minastirith | 2,451 posts
| I love the books. They're among my favourite books ever.
And I loved the earlier films, as well. But this film really sucked. I just bought it on DVD for my 4 year-old nephew. Not even staring at Emma Watson made it any better. - I'll still end up watching the next two no doubt, likely because TJ will be old enough that I have to take him to see them in the cinema. But honestly, it's just not true enough to the book.
By the way, Dolores Umbridge is way, way more evil the film than she is in the book, in my opinion. I hate her ten times more now... | 0 @ 20-11-2007 04:56 Bucephalus | 2,118 posts
| Nothing ever looked interesting enough for me to read the book or watch the movie |
