| So, starting Monday, my roommate and I are going to try the South Beach Diet together. Anyone know what it is? Have opinions about it? Tried it? Success/failure stories? I'm a little nervous cuz the book says that in the first phase (2 weeks long) you lose 8-13 pounds, and I'm only looking to lose maybe 10 pounds, tops. I'm not really overweight, I just want to be a little more slender. It sounds like a really healthy way of eating though! It doesn't advocate a low-carb diet as a lifestyle, just a lifestyle of eating the *right* carbs. It seems a little protien-heavy, so I might tweak it a bit and see if I can play with it that way, but yeah...opinions? Thoughts? Objections? |

| Um, I know nothing about the actual diet, but the snack bars they have are really, really good. Seriously, I normally hate the taste of stuff that's basically better for you than most snacks, but I buy them normally, the peanut-butter one's are tehhh best.
Yeah, I'm no help Meg, but yeah, try those sometime. | 0 @ 07-07-2007 23:29 vandy | 9,526 posts
| I'm a little weary of pre-packaged and processed foods...but in a pinch I might try one.

| well, I assume you're going to exercise along with the diet, otherwise the results probably won't happen
and, although I've never tried it personally, I'd guess that "tweaking" the amount of protein in the first phase will cause the diet to be less effective, since its based on changing your bodies resistance to insulin produced from carbohydrate signals
I wouldn't worry about losing the full 18 pounds or whatever, I'm sure that's just the maximum of the range of weights people lose
otherwise, good luck! | 0 @ 07-07-2007 23:36 vandy | 9,526 posts
| oh I wouldn't tweak it in the first phase...just later on...too much protien is hard on your kidneys.
and oh my gosh...being sedentary is a HUGE trigger for me, it makes me feel gross about myself, and the last thing I want to do is stop eating again! I think there's been like three times in almost the last 3 years that I've gone a week without working out, and I felt grossss...most weeks I do it 4-5 times for an hour or so, so yeah. Wouldn't drop the ball on that one. | 0 @ 12-10-2007 14:32 Arual_92 | 589 posts

| it's been months now, but for anybody who cares to know, the south beach diet didn't do diddly-squat for me. I followed it to a T for 2 weeks (minus one tiny sliver of cake at a wedding I went to...hey...it was a wedding...i had to eat cake!) and didn't lose a single freaking pound. And I was hungry ALL the time. I don't think such a low carb intake is good for people who are very active. | 0 @ 26-10-2007 00:24 joy99 | 47 posts
